[edit]I only rewrote a couple of sentences, I did move stuff around in the article. Still needs major attention but I've had my fill of Mr. Archer for today. --revotfel ★ 18:18, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Similarities to his Obituary in The Independent?
[edit]Passages are identical in this article: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/professor-bruce-archer-491278.html
Not sure which one is the source, but seems to be some plagiarism here (unless I didn't notice the references, which is entirely possible). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.96.168.76 (talk) 17:06, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Sebastian Macmillan writes: Having known Bruce reasonably well, I originally wrote an account of his life in support of a presentation to him of a Lifetime Achievement Award of the Design Research Society in 2004. I later expanded this into the obituary in The Independent. Quite a lot of the facts I had set out reappeared in his obituary in The Times by a press writer, and Christopher Frayling published a more personal obituary in the Guardian. Drawing largely on my original but with some additional facts from these other sources, and editing it to differentiate it from The Independent version, I uploaded the first Wikipedia version, naming him as Bruce Archer, only to have it removed within 24 hours on the grounds it plagiarised The Times obituary! Ironic or what. I presumed the bot to be part of the Rupert Murdoch empire, as there was no reference to similarities between the article and The Independent original. Or perhaps the bot just doesn't read The Independent. Anyway, as a work-around, I switched the title to L. Bruce Archer which was how he signed himself for a number of years, and here it has stayed. Revotfel seems to have edited it into a more standardised Wikipedia format, and others have provided references etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.7.250.77 (talk) 17:36, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- You know, we can't use original material. Everything has to be cited to published reliable sources. Yworo (talk) 23:54, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
