Move?
[edit]Life Goes On (song) → L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. — Relisted. fuzzy510 (talk) 07:51, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
- This is the correct name of the song. See all of the refs. 212.159.45.2 (talk) 01:13, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Word styling unnecessary.--Labattblueboy (talk) 03:49, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Within the song, are the 10 initials an acronym? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:44, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. Regardless of how it is officially titled, readers searching for it are more likely to seek the ordinary spelling. The suggested target should be made into a redirect. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 16:32, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- How is it a common name? Can you provide any reliable sources where it is referred to as "Life Goes On"? 212.159.45.2 (talk) 21:05, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose MOS:TM -- playful typography/punctuation 65.95.14.96 (talk) 20:22, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- I don't really see how that's relevant? This isn't a trademark. And furthermore if it was, per MOS:TM, "Using all caps is preferred if the letters are pronounced individually, even if they don't stand for anything.". 212.159.45.2 (talk) 23:32, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- The song definitely shouldn't be at this title. If not moved to the target above, it should be moved to Life Goes On (Noah and the Whale song). There are a number of other songs with this name (see Life Goes On) and there is no clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. This page should revert to being a redirect to the dab page as it was previously. Also, if you look up the lyrics (I won't provide a link to a WP:COPYVIO) the words "Life Goes On" don't actually appear in the song at all - when it is sung the letters are spelt out and there aren't gaps between the words. All sources I can find refer to the song as "L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.". When played on the radio, DJs refer to it as L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N., spelling out the letters individually. I can't find ANY reliable sources which refer to the song as "Life Goes On". (I know it's obvious but) how do we even know that the letters L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. actually refer to the words Life, Goes and On? Who's to say we should add spaces? If styling is an issue (I don't see why it is here - why shouldn't we style it in this way?), then surely it should be Lifegoeson or LIFEGOESON? If no other reliable sources refers to it by this name then neither should Wikipedia. Wikipedia is WP:NOTMADEUP. 212.159.45.2 (talk) 21:05, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- LIFEGOESON seems more appropriate, or L-I-F-E-G-O-E-S-O-N , there's no excess punctuation in the first, in the second it does not make it appear to stand for something. 65.95.14.96 (talk) 00:31, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. is what it should be renamed to. It's referred to that on the artists web page (http://www.noahandthewhale.com/album.html). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.66.87.192 (talk) 12:54, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- Agree, it should be moved to L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. as the band's official website and all media outlets refer to the song as L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. such as- http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/l-i-f-e-g-o-e-s-o-n-single/id414721175 . I do agree that it is unnecessary punctuation but L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. is the name of the song, not Life Goes On
- Done - moved. 狐 FOX 08:55, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Wait for the outcome of the discussion! Skinsmoke (talk) 15:12, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- Someone moved the page back to Life Goes On (song). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:37, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- Support The independent sources linked on the article (the Irish and British chart listings) use L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. Converting this to Life Goes On appears to be original research. Much as I hate it, I have to agree with the proposed move! Skinsmoke (talk) 15:11, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- Whether you like it or not, it's L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. according to http://www.nme.com/news/nme-chart/55209 http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/reviews/noah-and-the-whale-koko-london-2220601.html http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/its-all-a-very-long-way-from-abbey-road-2224676.html http://gaffa.dk/nyhed/46860 http://www.revistamarvin.com/noticia.detalle.php?art_id=3123 http://detektor.fm/musik/keine-angst-vor-hits-folge-3/ http://www.ilikemusic.com/music_news/Jessie_J_Scores_First_UK_Number_One_Single-12222 ... 狐 FOX 22:46, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- Also, if you actually listen to the song, the words "life goes on" are not said once. 狐 FOX 22:47, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- I can't see any argument for calling it 'Life Goes On'. Every credible source spells it as one word with initials. Anyway, if the title is considered to be 'Life Goes On', surely the 2Pac song is at least as notable?--MartinUK (talk) 12:22, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
It's fairly obvious that consensus is for moving the page. Dozens of reliable sources refer to the song in this way, as numerous people have pointed out. I shall move the page. 狐 FOX< /small> 21:21, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
- Its very clearly not obvious by reading the discussion above, in which you are one of the major proponents of the move. Please allow a neutral and uninvolved party close the discussion and make a decision. Unfortunately an admin now has to undo your hastiness. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 00:26, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Left at L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.. This is the song title - "Life Goes On" is a reinterpretation of the title which, while being fairly obvious, is not supported by reliable sources, primary or secondary. Dcoetzee 01:23, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
