  • Thank you!
Many thanks, I'll get to it as soon as I can. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:25, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nice work on the changes! This looks like another fantastic Middle-Earth GA for the illustrious Chiswick Chap. I can now confidently pass this article for GA status. Congrats! 𓃦LunaEatsTuna (💬) 22:04, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio check

[edit]

Earwig says good to go. Only concern it gives is a URL to a blog on Amino, but it was published 22 August 2020 after this Wikipedia article was written, so the text is provably copied from WP.

Yes, clearly no problem there.

Quotations used in-line with WP:COPYQUOTE—attributed and usually very short extracts.

Noted.

Files

[edit]

All images relevant and copyright-free:

  • File:TN-Luthien-Web.jpg: good, valid fair use rationale—downscaled;
  • File:Mandos and Lúthien.jpg: good, CC-BY-SA 3.0;
  • File:Tolkiengrab.jpg: good, CC-BA-SA 3.0.
Noted.

Prose

[edit]
  • In the lead, the sentence starting "The complex tale" is pretty wordy. Is there anyway to split it into two?
  • Done.
  • I like what you did with this!
  • Is Tinúviel an alias or a second name? The name is mentioned in Earlier versions, but the first mention of this name in Context is "that her beauty reflects that of Lúthien Tinúviel," which may confuse readers.
  • Yes, removed.
  • The first image caption is good, but I think "is among artist Ted Nasmith's acclaimed works" should be cited given the statement's authority.
  • Removed the sales talk, not sure why that was there.
  • Ah!
  • "for she was the most beautiful of Elves and Men." – I have yet to write an article that requires in-universe information (so please bear with me) but is this the best way to state this? It makes it sound like it is a fact that in Tolkien's work she was canonically the most beautiful.
  • Reworded.
  • "and in the Hidden Kingdom" – could this be wikilinked to somewhere or given more information for the readers?
  • Done.
  • Same concern with: "in the pits of the Lord of Wolves".
  • Good catch, done.
  • "Her mother who told her that Beren was captive in Sauron's dungeons." – is this missing a word?
  • Fixed.
  • The efn note needs a citation.
  • Added.
  • "It moved Mandos to pity for the only time." – may be personal taste, but "for the only time" sounds awkward here. Is there a better word choice available?
  • Reworded.
  • Much better!
  • "Tolkien's earliest form of his tale" – recommend "Tolkien's earliest form of the tale".
  • Done.
  • "In a letter to his son Christopher" – wikilink Christopher Tolkien.
  • Done.
  • The sentence "Elves - the Nauglamír and the Silmaril - and" uses a hyphen-minus whilst "the Welsh Culhwch and Olwen and others — namely," uses an em dash. Is this correct? Otherwise I would recommend standardising one for consistency.
  • Fixed, both are en-dashes.
  • Oh, I see!

Refs

[edit]

Did not pass spotcheck. Alas, I do not own the physical works, so I decided to spotcheck all the sources cited as Secondary instead—no concerns with refs 1–4, 6–7. Could not verify ref 5 as the link was dead.

Noted.

I had access to ref 1 via the Wikipedia Library and refs 2, 4 and 7 via previews on Google Books.

Noted.
  • Could the citation template for ref 2 (Secondary) be improved upon?
  • Done.
  • Ref 5 is a dead link.
  • Archived.
  • Ref 7's page number is incorrectly formatted.
  • Fixed.
  • The ref for The Lays of Beleriand uses periods whilst the other citations use commas.
  • Fixed.

Other

[edit]

Templates (including infobox), external links, cats and navs good to go.

Noted.
  • Add WP:ALT text to the images.
  • Done. This is actually optional for GA.
  • I think it is the least we can do for the visually impaired. Same for colours in tables that certain degrees of colourblindness cannot see :)
  • Good thought.

LunaEatsTuna - I think that's all done now. Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:34, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
