I saw him
[edit]I saw Leon Goosens play live twice. The second time in Colne lancashire in about 1978,he would have been about 80 years old.I got his autograph on a record of him playing superbly the soliloquy the middle movement of what would have been a concerto by Elgar. He was the doyen the doyen of oboists, his playing of the middle movement of the Marcello concerto towers above any other performance. HE was one of the old school, and sadly we will never see his like again. Yours sincerely, Wilf Slater.
Leon or Léon
[edit]His name appears both ways in reference works. I'd be interested to see how he himself spelt his name - with or without an acute. His brother Eugene Aynsley Goossens did without a grave on his name, although his father was a Eugène. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- I think the whole article is lacking in biographical information. If they were British by will, then Eugene and Leon will perhaps have eliminated the unnecessary French accents from their names to Anglicise them a little. Where was he born? When and why did he come to Britain? The page doesn't even mention his car crash, after which he had to relearn his embouchure due to a broken jaw. Fuficius Fango (talk) 08:42, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
