Is this really a consistent protracted war, or is it just sporadic military expeditions?

I'm unconvinced this was a singular near-100 year conflict. All sources are in Russian, are there Chinese or English historian sources?

There were expeditions after Qing conquests of the Ili Valley and Tarim Basin, but do these all equate to a single protracted conflict waged by the Qing state against the Kyrgyz?
