New template for characters!

[edit]

I took the time to start up a basic template for characters in the Haruhi series:

Template:Haruhi character

I've taken into account that most, if not all people are normal, hence the default values. If you feel that there could be any improvements on this, please edit it as you wish

I think it could be a lot simpler. Only three characters are not human.. and even gender is usually obvious. -- Ned Scott 23:13, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, fair point, however I do feel that 'Affiliation(s)' and 'Abilities' would be handy for people to know at a glance of who they work for and what they can do. For all others who do not have any, the field won't appear. What do you think? -- Turbanator 06:35, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, is it just me or can you see his full name in the credits for the "movie" in the first episode? The version I'm watching is too blurry... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.106.163.33 (talkcontribs).

I remember someone talking about this before, and I think it was nothing more than a name of one of the real life staff members of the anime. -- Ned Scott 06:26, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is probably irrelevant, but kyon means "dog" in Greek (I refrained from editing the article b/c I didn't think it was too important); and regarding Kyon, I think that his real name was not revealed on purpose, I don't think it'll be on the credits (it also says Kyon and Kyon no Imouto on the Character song albums. Correct me if I'm wrong anywhere though, please. -- WalmartRetard 21:24, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No your right. His name isn't revealed on purpose, though we have been given hints about it.

You're correct, all we've heard of his "real" name so far is that it was "too majestic" for him or something from an old school friend. (I actually think this is in the article, so my "discussing" it is probably a bit redundant :P Himynameishelen (talk) 17:14, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Telephatic Haruhi

[edit]

in the main page, there was a line " Kyon may also direct his thoughts at Haruhi, which Haruhi might respond to, thus making it unclear whether he is speaking aloud or merely thinking to himself." From what I read in the novel, it has occured with Asahina and Itsuki, if I remembered correctly it was during the making of the movie (Book 2) and in Live a Live, where Kyon would think of something and both of them replied in the same way as Haruhi would —The preceding linkinstreet comment was added by 219.94.5.6 (talk) 02:58, 4 May 2007 (UTC).Linkinstreet 13:27, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed it up

[edit]

I fixed up the article with some out of universe things, and took out the irrelavant parts.

Fair use rationale for Image:Kyon.jpg

[edit]

Image:Kyon.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Concerning the Reason for Kyon Being "Chosen"

[edit]

This article states that it's Kyon's resemblence to John Smith (himself) that most likely played a role in his being picked to help found the brigade, and goes on to state that there's a lesser chance that his opening up to her also influenced this. On what grounds is this comment made? Haruhi's question about previous meetings is only a throw-away one that she never brings up again, so I don't see how it's inherently superior to the fact that he decided to "open up" to her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.60.188.14 (talk) 21:01, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in this article it mentions temporal paradoxes, however the reason that Kyon was chosen because he resembles John Smith is also a Temporal Paradox; if he had not been chosen by Haruhi, he would not have gone back in time as John Smith, therefore this should be mentioned as a Temporal Paradox if the if the other mention was also important enough. Alternatively, I am not sure about this, and I don't know anything about wiki and what is legit in an article, but perhaps the whole John Smith theory should be deleted as there does not seem to be any proof of it apart from the view of the person who wrote it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Necta (talkcontribs) 12:43, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Paragraph removed. I agree it shouldn't be there, since there's no real basis. With how the paragraph is written, it's basically "We're not sure, but it could be this or this." with no backing, so I've removed the paragraph. Debate it here if people don't agree. -- Highwind888, the Fuko Master 02:03, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Doctor Who reference

[edit]

Is Kyon calling himself John Smith time travelling a reference to doctor who or a really common fake name in TV shows?

This anime came out in 2006 a year after doctor who came back in the UK at least I think the first one to use John Smith is David Tennant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.27.131.165 (talk) 14:57, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
