Mahakavi
[edit]I read somewhere that Asan became a mahakavi without writing a Mahakavyam (Mahakaavyamezhuthaathe Mahaakaviyaaya eka kavi...).If this is true, then some changes have to be made in the article.I am not sure.--Sahodaran 04:31, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

- Same here. This is what I have I have learned in school. Tintin 12:46, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
Picture of Kumaran Asan?
[edit]I own the book (Asante Padyakrthikal) cited at the end of this article. The back cover includes a picture (painting?) of Kumaran Asan, sitting in a dark background with leaves of various colors. Is it OK by Wikipedia standards to take a picture of the back cover? Or would that violate the book's copyright or something?--Kuaichik 02:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hmmm. I'll check with someone else. The bookcover is allowed only in a discussion about the book. But photos which are more than 70 years old are in public domain, but not sure whether it applies to those which appear in a book. Tintin (talk) 05:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- I've added two pictures. Found 'em through good ol' Google.-- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK07:44, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Shadaaa! Now why didn't I ever think of that??? :) Once again, Deepusaarre, thank you very much!--Kuaichik 15:34, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Comments
[edit]Credited for being the only Mahakavi who didn't write a Mahakavyum.
- I have often read P. Kunujiraman Nair being referred to as 'Mahakavi P.'. He hasn't written any Mahakavyas, has he ? There could be such others too.
- I am deleting this line now. See this news report about the 'Mahakavi P Kunjiraman Nair Award'. There are a few others like Akkitham who have also been called Mahakavis. Tintin (talk) 06:01, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
The crowning achievement of Kumaran Asan was his Buddha Charitha
Is there any uniformity of opinion that this is his finest work ? Tintin (talk) 05:49, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Added a "citation required tag" Tintin (talk) 06:01, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Hey, Tintin! I don't know whether Sribuddhacharitham was Kumaran Asan's "finest" work, but it certainly looks like it was his longest. In Asante Padyakrthikal, it's 143 pages long!
(Certainly if I hold all the pages of each poem together, Sri Buddha Charitham is the thickest, and please do not make me count the number of verses!!) :)
The only other epic poem Asan wrote was the Balaramayanam, which is only 41 pages. --Kuaichik 11:47, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
How big is Asante Padyakrthikal ? Tintin (talk) 14:03, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Pretty big. 904 pages in all (including commentary). It includes all of Kumaran Asan's works, as far as I know. Certainly it includes all of the poems listed on this page. --Kuaichik 02:26, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Copied???
[edit]I have a hunch that much of the information here is copied from the website http://www.geocities.com/guruforum/kumaranasan.htm. I suppose I could be wrong; maybe the website owner actually copied from this article and then forgot to attribute some of the information properly. All I know for sure is that many of the sentences in this article (including the controversial one concerning the Sreebuddhacharitham) are (almost) exactly the same as those in the above-mentioned website. --Kuaichik 02:34, 15 August 2006 (UTC)asdsafas
