Reefer Madness

There is no mention of her appearing in the Reefer Madness musical, and only a passing reference is made to the movie. - Matthew238 05:08, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Starred in the Off Broadway musical, and the movie. --Tomsnet 16:38, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Bad picture

There is a GREAT picture of Kristen Bell at http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com_zoom&Itemid=57&page=view&catid=101&key=5&hit=1.

This is from Fanboys.

Could someone please post it?

There is also an awesome one of her in Shape Magazine. PLEASE post or tell me how...

No. Please reread WP:FU which explains why these images are inappropriate for use on the Wikipedia. --Yamla 21:16, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm curious if we could get a -worse- picture of Ms. Bell....

Just changed the picture to a better one. Hope you enjoy! - rvb_strongbad 07:26, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Just added 2 fair use TV screenshots, one from the Late Late Show for the profile pic, and one from Emmy Idol. --TheTruthiness 22:18, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Another awful picture seems to have emerged. What was wrong with the older one? Blaise Joshua 07:52, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm just trying to figure out who it is.. common were not going to become "the free incomprehensible encyclopeadia that anyone can edit" for the sake of fair use are we? thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 08:13, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

You know I try never try to step in when images are getting switched and all, but here I have to at least get my voice in. That image may be suitable as a souvenir for a convention, but for the purpose of identifying someone, it is awful and needs to be replaced with... anything else.--Bacteria 20:23, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

The one up right now is extremely blurry. Can someone change it?

The old image has been restored.. I'm going to try emailing some people at flickr though who have uploaded there images of her to see if they will freely license an image in the mean time as we do not to try and get a free image eventually. Polish-Americans?

Does anyone have a good, first-hand source for her Polish ancestry? Every site I could find was shaky. I believe this info originally came from the IMDB, who now say she's of Irish descent! Anyway, until there's something first-hand (like an interview) I'll remove the category. MadJack 06:49, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Kristen Bell, Interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, March 14, 2005. Video clip: http://www.neptune-high.net/video/cast/bell.php. Starting ~2:30 mark.

Weirdly enough, this interview says she comes from an "Irish family".[1] The Ellen interview is more reliable, and gives the impression that Bell meant her whole family is Polish. I'm guessing the interviewer for Parade might've looked her up on the IMDB, where at the time it said she was Irish, and put that fact in his article without actually asking her... but I'm not sure Mad Jack O'Lantern 18:04, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey User:Mad Jack, here is source for saying that she is of Polish ancestry...[2], under "Trivia", fourth one down. You're welcome! (Trampton 04:38, 14 February 2007 (UTC)).

Her mother's family is Polish, her father's family is Irish. From a family member. --Tomsnet 16:36, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Diminutive size and petite figure

The series Veronica Mars makes frequent self deprecating jokes about Kristen's size. For example in the Episode "Mars Vs Mars" she hides in a small compartment in the bathroom and remarks how she knows she is petite and it comes in handy some times. In series two in an episode where she receives a consultation from a plastic surgeon who says he wouldn't change a thing, another character later comments similarly but with a suggestion about increasing her chest size. I found it an interesting coincidence that her episode in Everwood was also about - entirely unnecessary - breast enlargement. Perhaps someone else can find an interesting way to integrate these coincidences into the description of Ms. Bell in an amusing way. It suggests she has a healthy body image, good self image and sense of humor to go along with repeated jokes at her own expense (either that or she is externalises the character from herself and doesn't take it personally but I prefer to think she well developed sense of humor).

I think its irrelevant, one because her size has no association with what she does and two, the jokes on VM were aimed at Veronica, not Kristen. This article needs to be neutral and going on about her sense of humour will affect the bias of it. --Franch 05:54, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism?

This is ridiculous, if you idiots would rather have no picture at all then I just don't know. Putting a picture on here is not vandalism for god's sake. The copyright issue is just not a big deal, I have no idea why some people are intent on ruining wikipedia by removing perfectly good photos. This sort of thing is why normal people are losing interest in editing this site, leaving it to nerds who are obsessed with copyright issues to take over. Sad really.

It's more like "Anonymous editors disrupting". --Majorly 23:50, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Well if people like you feel the need to delete a photo for no good reason, (seriously, the legal issue is non existent, nobody is going to care that this photo is used, really) I don't know what you are trying to achieve, but go for it, I guess. It's just a shame, that's all. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 125.238.76.186 (talkcontribs) 00:06, 4 December 2006 (UTC).
It's just the Wikipedia-Nazi's getting pissy and deleting pages and photos. Hopefully they'll get over it one day and realize there are better things to do in life than patrolling Wikipedia for certain images and pages.
It's unlikely. --Majorly 13:48, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Roman Catholic?

Is she or not?Domingo Portales 06:34, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, she went to a Catholic high school. (Trampton 04:40, 14 February 2007 (UTC)).

Yes, she is. --Tomsnet 16:36, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

I am her Dad.--Tomsnet 20:38, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

How can you be her dad? You're joking right?(Trampton 03:14, 28 February 2007 (UTC)).

Tomsnet has no reason to lie, Trampton please assume good faith. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 07:57, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

How do we know this person is really her dad,we can't trust everyone.

Well, for starters, Tomsnet user name is eerily similar to the domain name of this website, which really looks like it is maintained by a family member of Kristen Bell. By the way, is there a reason why this picture is not used as a picture in the article? It really looks good. Thank you, Tomsnet, for uploading it. I suppose you are the author of the picture? Blur4760 12:30, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Indeed it's a very good picture. Tomsnet also used to hold a place holder for Kristin's official website. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 12:38, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, re: the picture. Her mom snapped it during a visit to the set. And, yes, TomsNet is the family website. --Tomsnet 20:52, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Maybe you should upload this image to Wikimedia Commons, so, the Wikipedias in other languages will be able to use it. --Carioca 05:49, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

A picture?

Shouldn't we already have a picture in the infobox,we only have one picture and that is the one where she is on Veronica Mars.(Trampton 02:10, 2 March 2007 (UTC)).

Recognitions

Shouldn't the article recognize that she's been on Maxim's Hot list multiple times and she was nominated as the world's #1 sexiest vegetarian? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.221.187.139 (talk) 03:33, 26 April 2007 (UTC).

Veronica Mars

The cancellation isn't yet confirmed, and they called that episode a season finale, not series finale. They might bring the show back as a mid season replacement in a new format. JordanZed 21:00, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

PLEASE CHANGE THE PICTURE

Could we PLEASE get a more unflattering picture? I'd really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure in what sense you're requesting a new one, but removing it just because you don't like it enough or whatever reasoning is considered vandalism, so please leave it in place. Considering it was also taken by a family member (thanks Tom & family!) and released in to the public domain you could well be hard pushed to find what you consider a "better" photo without breaking free-use copyright laws. AllynJ 02:12, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Err... what's wrong with the picture? My personal opinion is that it's a pretty good picture. Matthew 08:47, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Indeed; I'm not sure what's going on there either. AllynJ 08:55, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Actually it is pretty easy to find a picture that it better without breaking any of your precious phony baloney copyright laws. A one minute scan of the pics of Flickr turned up nearly a dozen pics better than that one uploaded here that the authors have given free use to. I don't know if the fact that a family member has uploaded a picture should necessarily be given any special consideration. Indeed, since family members often have prejudiced or distorted views of their kin compared to the way the general public might view them, I'd submit they should be given even less consideration. The picture on the page right now has a definite "pic only a mom or dad could love" feel to it. I think it may properly reflect the way her older relatives think of her, but it hardly represents the image of the glamorous and talented actress which the majority of the public thinks of when they hear her name. I think a picture from one of the recent Cons, in which her hair is styled in the manner in which she's been wearing it of late, and she's much more dolled up and professional looking, would be a lot more appropriate for an encyclopedia entry.Bogan444 17:22, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Would you care to provide some links? Last time I browsed Flickr I found zilch. Matthew 17:24, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
I just searched and same here. There is this [3] but it has a non-commercial use only license so is not sufficiently free. Also it's hardly better then the existing photo. There is this [4] but it claims all rights reserved and clearly doesn't belong to the person who uploaded it, the uploader even say something stupid like 'I found this on the internet so it must be public domain' (demonstrating a complete lack of understanding of copyright law amongst other things). A few others with similar dubious situations. The current photo seems fairly decent IMHO. It is fairly rare we have better photos given that most of our photographers are amateurs and have to take photos in whatever situation presents itself. We don't usually have studio quality photos for obvious reasons Nil Einne 00:56, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I actually agree with the person who started this discussion. The picture is very bad. Could we use one of the other ones? (Wikirocks2 14:10, 5 November 2007 (UTC))
For the record, I always thought the picture was fine, albeit that it was taken a few years ago and there should be a newer and better alternative. Looking on Wikimedia Commons, I found a newer one that I think works fine. I went ahead and changed the picture on the page. If you find a better one or still think the previous one works, feel free to revert my edit. Rvb_strongbad 06:03, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
The new picture is not the best picture of Kirsten Bell, but it is definitally better than the old one. I think it's good. Thanks! :) (Wikirocks2 (talk) 06:03, 3 December 2007 (UTC))

GA review

I'm pleased to say that this article is in great shape and fulfills the GA criteria. It is well written, factually accurate and verifiable, comprehensive, neutral, stable, and well illustrated with free images. I could probably see this article going the FAC route someday if it continues to grow and improve. There are several suggestions I have in regards to the prose, however. Let me know when these things have been addressed and I will gladly pass the article. :)

  • The first sentence seems overly long; perhaps remove "appearing in several musicals early in her career" since that is mentioned in the next paragraph.
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Bell had acted in other stage and musical productions previous to that: remove "other" since the first part of the sentence refers to films, not stage productions. Rather than "previous to that" use "previously acted in stage...".
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 1990 (UTC)
  • Bell also acted as Mary Lane in Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, the film version of a stage production she had also starred in, and portrayed the lead role in Pulse, a remake of a J-Horror film: "portrayed" seems redundant since "acted as" is already used.
Done Reworded as it was a bit confusing: During her time on Veronica Mars, Bell also reprised her role as Mary Lane in the film version of Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, a stage production she had took part in. She also portrayed the lead role in Pulse, a remake of a J-Horror film. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • The quote in the lead is not noted in the body of the article, and since it is not a notable quote in and of itself, I would suggest removing it (keeping the mention and ref about her young looks) and perhaps adding something pertaining to her charity work, which is described in full in the "Personal life" section.
Done Fixed. It has been removed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Born and raised in Huntington Woods, Michigan, a suburb about three miles north of Detroit, Bell is the daughter of Tom Bell, a television news director, and Lorelei Bell, a registered nurse: I'd split this into two sentences; 1) where she is from and 2) her parents and what they do.
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • When she was two years old, her parents divorced,[3] and her father remarried, giving Bell two step sisters,[5] Sara and Jody. That's a lot of commas. :) How about: "Her parents divorced when she was two years old and she has two stepsisters, Sara and Jody, from her father's second marriage."
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • where she took part in drama and music club: is this supposed to read the drama and music club?
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • In 1998, the year of her graduation: awkward -- "the year she graduated"?
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • In 2004, Bell performed in the stage production of Reefer Madness in Los Angeles, having moved there in 2002 because of her friendship with writers Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney: perhaps reword it so that her moving to Los Angeles is mentioned first in a separate sentence; the reverse chronology is somewhat confusing.
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Shortly after, she won the role of the title character in UPN's drama Veronica Mars, which was launched in the fall of 2004: "shortly after" is unnecessary since the timeline has already been established in the previous paragraph; the sentence can stand on its own.
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • The series earned positive reviews from television critics, as did Bell's performance, which some critics views as overlooked, however, deserving of an Emmy Award nomination. Perhaps try: "The series earned positive reviews from television critics, as did Bell's performance. Some critics felt that she was overlooked, however, and deserved an Emmy Award nomination."
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • In 2005, Bell starred in Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, reprising the role she played in the off-Broadway musical, a spoof of the 1936 exploitation film of the same name, which was in turn was based on an anti-marijuana propaganda film entitled Tell Your Children. Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical debuted on the Showtime network on April 16, 2005: long and confusing. I'd split this into two or even three sentences.
Done Reworded: In 2005, Bell starred in Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, reprising the role she played in the off-Broadway musical. The musical was based on a spoof of the 1936 exploitation film of the same name; the 1936 film itself was in turn was based on Tell Your Children, an anti-marijuana propaganda film. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • A Tribeca Film Festival entry which premiered in April, Fifty Pills saw Bell star as Gracie: This is awkward. How about, "Aside from working on Veronica Mars, in April Bell starred as Gracie in Fifty Pills, an entry for the Tribeca Film Festival."
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • and the horror film Roman, which re-united her with The Crucible co-star Angela Bettis who directed Roman: change to "and the horror film Roman, which was directed by her The Crucible co-star Angela Bettis."
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • however critics commented on the missing social commentary in the American version, resulting in a film with a series of scares created for the purpose of shock value.: is this necessary in the article? I could see it on the film's article, but as this has nothing to do with Bell or her performance, it doesn't need to be here.
Done I removed that completely and added a quote that was more related to how the film's quality (as mentioned in the removed quote) affected Bell's performance. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • On May 17, 2007 Ostroff announced the cancellation of the series, however, there were talks of another collaboration between Bell and series creator Thomas: the before and after "however" seem like two separate thoughts; split into two sentences and move the "collaboration" talks to before the part about the film and comic book.
Done Reworded: On May 17, 2007 Ostroff announced the cancellation of the series. A Veronica Mars feature film and comic book series continuation had been discussed, and for a short time there was talk of a collaboration between Bell and creator Thomas that would be unrelated to the Veronica Mars series. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • She was also spoken to about a role on Lost, however, was not offered one: watch your "however"s -- "but" works better in this circumstance.
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Announced in August 2007, Bell was to portray Elle Bishop, a "mysterious young lady" with an "awesome power". She did not have to audition for the role of Elle, who will appear on a total of thirteen episodes: isn't this somewhat outdated since she has already began to appear on the show?
Done Reworded: She did not have to audition for the role of Elle, who made her first appearance in an October 2007 episode, and will appear in at least thirteen episodes during the run of the series. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Bell was the subject of two questions on the game show Jeopardy!: this seems very random as it has nothing to do with the rest of the paragraph. Move it elsewhere or expand?
Done Removed. haha, it was a bit random. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • At age eleven, Bell became a vegetarian and in an interview with PETA, Bell stated, "I have always been an animal lover...: split into two sentences.
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Bell often attends fund raisers for the ASPCA and other non-profit organization dedicated to protecting animals: organizations?
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • She owns a Welsh Corgi-Chow Chow mix, Lola, a Welsh Corgi-Chihuahua mix, Shakey, and a black Labrador Retriever rescued from Hurricane Katrina who Bell adopted in 2005, the then eleven year old Sadie: the names separated by commas is somewhat confusing. Perhaps: "A Welsh Corgi etc. named Lola and a black lab named Sadie, who was rescued from Hurricane Katrina when she was eleven years old and adopted by Bell in 2005."
 Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

All finished. I did some other minor changes as well, so I hope everything turned out well. Thanks for reviewing, I really appreciate it! -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Role on Lost

I read in the article : She was also spoken to about a role on Lost, but was not offered one. In fact, it seems that she has been offered a role in Lost, and turned down the offer, as can be seen here and there. Arikel (talk) 01:31, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

She specifically states here: "I had been spoken to about possibly doing a role on Lost, but I was not offered one." -Lindsey8417 (talk) 03:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Wonky eye

On the April 18th episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, she stated that she had a lazy eye that would occasionally become obvious when she was staying up late.[5] The fact that she names it is hysterical "wonky" and "night owl" and is willing to share it with the world should be noted somehow in the article. --Hourick (talk) 18:59, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

That being the case, I couldn't find the problem and wasn't sure if I was the only one seeing it. It appears you actually removed two citations; were those valid citations at one point in the article's history? It would probably be better to fix and replace those as opposed to just removing them. Kristen doesn't have six half sisters

Kristen has two half sisters... Jody and Sara. From her father Tom's re-marriage when she was 4 years old. The three of them grew up together. This info is from me, her Dad, but there is plenty of documentation around. Try http://www.tv.com/Kristen-Bell/person/180276/summary.html Thanks Tomsnet (talk) 00:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)tomsnet

Welcome to Wikipedia Tom. The TV.com source is no good, as anyone can edit it, but the references in the article are not much better. Can you clarify exactly how many children you and your former wife have had, and with whom? If this is too much trouble, a reliable source would be even better. Thanks, Skomorokh 00:08, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I hesitate to list too much personal info here, given the open nature. But please check reference #5, the footnote to the sister info. Odd. Additionally, both Sara and Jody's names are spelled incorrectly. This Wiki article was correct about her two sisters for quite some time...not sure why it was changed... Thanks for looking into it. Regards, Tomsnet (talk) 00:54, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

i disagree, wikipedia can't be considered a good source either! wikipedia lets anyone edit, at least, tv.com needs you to be registered and the submissions at tv.com are moderated by tv.com, here at wikipedia, no one reviews them. please think twice next time before saying something. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.96.233.188 (talk) 06:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

her fiance "got her a sloth"

I think this wording should be changed because it implies that Bell has a pet sloth, which could be seen as cruel, as sloths are not domestic animals. In actuality her fiance arranged for a sloth with a handler to come to their house for a few hours. --129.11.249.164 (talk) 16:04, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for adding that info. I just read it and thought that owning a sloth, which I believe would be considered an exotic animal, would be illegal in California. Breakout role

The intro text claims that Forgetting Sarah Marshall was her "breakout film role". (The intro notes her first film role in Spartan. The intro notes her first "major role" as Veronica Mars. It is still possible that breakout film role is true but the fact that qualification would even needed, makes it seem like a fluffy bit of press release overstatement or a prosaic flourish rather than a properly supported NPOV statement appropriate for an encyclopedia, so lets see...)

The article text claims "is considered to be Bell's star-making role" but considered by whom? It is not clear who ever made that claim and the next reference after it is about her voice work on Assassins Creed. Maybe I missed a reference that helps support the statement.

Even if there are references to support the statement I think it would be better to rephrase it into a more neutral tone.

P.S. The Good Place is such a great show! -- 109.79.136.54 (talk) 00:40, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

I agree those statements need clarification and proper sourcing. I'm ok with "breakout film role" if sourced. I don't see breakout as too promotional and I think noting if/when her career in film took a big step forward would be appropriate. Being a film actress is still something different than being a tv actress. "Star-making role" is more troubling for me and I would support rephrasing it. Knope7 (talk) 04:09, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
