Skeptical

[edit]

Why would this be called "Cracow University of Economics" and "CUE" instead of "Krakow University of Economics" and "KUE" in English, when the name of the Polish city in English is "Krakow"? — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 04:54, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Using_talk_pages Kraków University of EconomicsCracow University of Economics – This is the official name of the University according to their website. Cities and universities named after them don't need to have the same name on Wikipedia, see Peking University and Beijing, China Genealogizer (talk) 19:00, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The University uses the name "Cracow University of Economics" in English. Calling the capital of China "Peking" is way more antiquated than calling the former capital of Poland "Cracow" (which is still somewhat current), and yet we still have an article on Peking University Genealogizer (talk) 22:07, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So I missed it, but User:Poeticbent - while I agree with you about the C vs K in General English usage, I have to say User:Genealogizer makes a valid point. UEK has been consistently using Cracow in their official documents. This is their official English mame, and they do have an official name (see http://uek.krakow.pl/en ). We should respect it, I think. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:55, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please look in here. They all feature the same logo:
  1. http://uek.krakow.pl/pl/zagranica/rus.html
  2. http://uek.krakow.pl/pl/zagranica/prc.html
  3. http://uek.krakow.pl/pl/zagranica/ua.html

Several translations in popular languages made available online are not official names of the university. Read the logo on the English language page please, it says UEK, not UEC. Poeticbent talk 07:42, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Poeticbent: Sorry for the late reply, but you didn't ping me :( All I see is the use of Polish name in Russian, Chinese and Ukrainian language pages - but the English page uses English name, and has a new, English, logo. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:41, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nom moved anyway...

Thanks to editor who reverted. Diff evidence shows that User Genealogizer is blocked User Bobby Martnen whose previous activity includes this cut and paste name change:
