Spelling of Kaikōura

A recent edit by an IP editor changed the spelling of Kaikōura back to Kaikoura, with an edit summary saying "Common spelling in English". I decided to check recent news items for spelling, and found in:The Herald, for articles published in 2021 and 2022:

Articles with the name spelled using a macron: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]

Spelling both with and without macron in one article: [9]

Articles using only the spelling without macron: None found

I found a similar pattern with a search of recently published articles on RNZ. The spelling with a macron is used by the Kaikōura District Council [10], and by Land Information New Zealand, where it is stated as an Official name.[11]

There has been a change over the past decade, but the spelling with the macron is now well established in independent, reliable English-language sources, in accordance with WP:COMMONNAME. ---Marshelec (talk) 21:07, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
