The Village deity Sri Sri Sri Kottammavaru
[edit]It is believed that the village deity came to this village a hundred years back to protect the village people from diseases ( small pox, cholera, tuberculosis etc were on the raise that time) and the crops from calamities viz floods, heavy rains, drought, fire, theft etc.
It all happened on a very hot and humid day when the village people were struggling to make their both ends meet due to acute famine, a middle aged lady came to the village and asked one carpenter/blacksmith (both the jobs were performed by that very person) to serve a pot full of water. To the carpenter's surprise she drank all the water of the pot and asked him to provided some food as well. As the carpenter's family was passing through the days of their hardship, he denied her the meal by telling her that there was nothing left in the kitchen. Amazingly she instructed him to bring the "Ambali" (a poor man's diet made of Malt or Ragi) which the carpenter's wife kept for the lunch of her family. The carpenter followed her instructions and served her the meal. Once the lady finished her lunch, she asked him to show the boundaries of the village. By now the carpenter started obeying her and took her to a walk around the village. When they reached the extreme end of the village she told the carpenter that she is the new deity of the village and she came there to protect the people and crops of the village. As soon as she uttered these words she disappeared. The mesmerized and shocked carpenter gathered few rocks and kept them at the place where the deity disappeared to mark it as a holy place. Later the deity is named as Sri Korrammavaru or Kottamma Talli (meaning new deity. In the present day a beautiful temple stands at that site and every Thursday almost all the village people (and people of nearby villages too) offer their prayers at this temple.v 59.94.209.131 04:54, 1 July 2007 (UTC) P.S.Reddy
