[edit]The reason why the USSR was able to pay so little is the fact that Canada secretly invited the CIA and jointly they conducted technical espionage on the wrecks, instead of clean-up. A local newspaper got the tip and they publicly uncovered the clandestine operation. There was a huge uproar in the eastern bloc, they made a big diplomatic row over this abuse of the treaty and the two american countries wanted to settle as quickly and silently as possible to supress the scandal. This is how the russkies managed to save a pretty penny. 195.70.32.136 09:23, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

dates
[edit]this article needs dates - leaves you with no idea of even which decade it happened in -- unsigned by user:Stevekeiretsu, 5 January 2007
- Ancient comment is outdated. I'm marking this as Done --BjKa (talk) 09:33, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
This happened around 9 or 9:30 Eastern time, perhaps a little earlier. I only know I was watching a TV program that aired at 9:30 a.m. on an Erie, PA station and upon the conclusion of the program, or perhaps during it, there was a bulletin about the satellite. [edit]Nuclear power for propulsion ? Or nuclear power for running the radar apparatus ? How was the nuclear power used for propulsion with 1970's technology ?Eregli bob (talk) 05:32, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- Nuclear power for running the radar apparatus. See US-A.
- For nuclear power used for propulsion with 1960's technology see NERVA.

Technical Details
[edit]"a liquid sodium-potassium thermionic converter"
I would guess that the liquid sodium-potassium is just the medium which transports the heat energy from the nuclear reactor core to the thermionic converter. A bit more detail in the description of the system setup and/or design of the thermionic converter would be nice. --BjKa (talk) 09:33, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
