Merger proposal
[edit]Contrary to what is stated on the Shaman article, there's no evidence that Shaman was disbanded. During interviews, the band members consistently describes Korpiklaani and Shaman as the same band only with a change in name and musical direction. The website for Korpiklaani lists the two Shaman albums as the first two Korpiklaani albums. I'm leaning towards merging but I do not really have a strong position one way or the other and so I'm wondering what others think. To merge or not to merge, that is the question. --Bardin (talk) 09:23, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
I say merge it, just ensure the article states the difference in musical direction, instead of leading people to believe that the band was just renamed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.76.111.122 (talk) 23:55, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
I agree as well, as long as it's clear that the band wasn't just renamed, but took another direction as well, it'd be good to put them together. 71.177.3.132 (talk) 20:11, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Disagree. These are two different bands, having only one musician in common, with different musical and lyrical styles. Merging them is something like merging Fight and Halford or Megadeth and MD.45. -- Serguei Trouchelle (talk) 09:11, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Agree. While two different identities, Korpiklaani might not exist where it not for Shaman, and Shaman was kinda like a catalyst for Korpiklaani. I say merge them, but make it very very clear that they are related because the existence of one was caused by the other. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 666head (talk • contribs) 20:34, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Disagree. There is a reason why the name changed from Shaman to Korpiklaani. The band really changed direction, both lyrically and musically. The line up has changed dramatically too. Shaman is not Korpiklaani, and Korpiklaani is not Shaman, although there is a strong connection between the two. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.182.148.227 (talk) 14:48, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
New merger discussion
[edit]I think the two articles should be merged, probably to this title since it is the extant formulation of the group, but then it should take a chronological view and explain the differences (better) between the two versions of the group. LadyofShalott 12:10, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with you. We should merge Shaman (Finnish band) into Korpiklaani.--Malconfort (talk) 02:33, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Done I'm going to do a bit more clean-up from the merger, but then I'd appreciate other eyes on it. LadyofShalott 22:35, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Thrash Metal
[edit]Okay.I definetly think that this band is thrash metal as well as folk metal. They have alot of thrash elements within there music. So why is it that Thrash metal isn't in the genre section of the page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.30.154.136 (talk) 18:02, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
I can't see any thrash elements in this band. Do you have any examples? 88.148.243.15 (talk) 22:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- More importantly, are there any reliable sources that describe them as playing thrash metal? LadyofShalott 22:09, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Korpiklaani Mistranslation
[edit]The start of the article states that korpiklaani translates into the forest clan however if you read the translation for the song: Salon Korpiklaani = Clan of the wilderness Salon, korven klaanin = Clan of the forest From what i gather the bands name actually translates into the wilderness clan not the forest clan —Preceding unsigned comment added by Diesal 11 (talk • contribs) 09:23, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, Salon Korpiklaani would mean "wilderness clan of Salo", where Salo (with capital letter) is either a place name in South Finland or an archaic word meaning a big island, used in a lot of place names. You are correct the word "korpi" should translate mostly as "wilderness", in the sense of a very remote area with forests and nature, but extremely few if any people. On a conceptual level, something like the Australian "outback", but no desert, just lush forests, animals, berries, etc. From a US cultural point of view, something like remote parts of Alaska might pass well as "korpi". --79.136.20.119 (talk) 11:47, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
Although the top was fixed, the bottom of the biography section still says that korpi means forest, instead of being changed to wilderness like it was at the top. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.78.70.210 (talk) 18:47, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Korpiklaani discography
[edit]Support split - Discography is large and should be split to Korpiklaani discography. --Jax 0677 (talk) 04:27, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
