Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedy deleted as pure vandalism or a blatant hoax, because it apparently actually exists: https://www.google.com/search?q=koolakamba --Oxguy3 tc 00:06, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit]This page should not be speedy deleted as pure vandalism or a blatant hoax, because... (I found information in other articles and cited them and made references to the URL's I used. I paraphrased much of the content and I didn't take take credit for any of it.... Although the information is available on other websites, I put it on Wikipedia for easy access in a simplified format.) --WordClerk (talk) 00:53, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Additional information
[edit]Even though it's a blog, this has relevant information, esp. comments by some-one working where the photo was presumably taken: http://scienceblogs.com/tetrapodzoology/2009/12/31/yaounde-zoo-mystery-ape/ Kdammers (talk) 20:45, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
a collection of gorilla-chimpanzee hybridization related reports
[edit]http://www.macroevolution.net/hybrid-hypothesis-section-5.html 176.63.176.112 (talk) 10:40, 22 October 2016 (UTC).
i added the 'citation needed' tag to this sentence: In fact most of these are regional races of chimpanzee classified as separate species by over-enthusiastic naturalists. (section: discussion.) since it is a strong statement ("in fact") dismissing "most" related reports, i belive it should be more precise. that could be done in 3 ways: whether listing the dismissed reports, or listing the ones that are not dismissed as hoaxes, or by softening the statement to sg like instead of "in fact", "majority of reports can not be judged until more research is directed to this topic", etc.

Too much credibility given to fringe notions
[edit]The idea that chimpanzees and gorillas could hybridize is fringe and without any science supporting the possibility. It should be dismissed as pseudoscience. It should not be supported as a plausible explanation for something utterly unsubstantiated. Similar "chimpanzee-gorilla hybrids" called Bili apes were tracked down, photographed, and DNA-tested. They proved out to be large specimens of the already-named Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii. There's no cited evidence that this koolakamba is different from Bili apes and other chimpanzees. ~ 2601:441:4400:1740:7975:6CF1:5BA8:297E (talk) 04:33, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
