Kongar-ool or Kongar-ol
[edit]Why is this article titled "Kongar-ool Ondar" rather than "Kongar-ol Ondar"? Perhaps it's a more correct Tyvan transliteration, but following the link to the official page, we see that the subject himself uses "Kongar-ol". --Theodore Kloba 15:56, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- I wondered the same thing. I created the original article at Kongar-ol Ondar. In November is was moved to Kongar-ool Ondar by Kintetsubuffalo. I did not see any discussion of the move beforehand. Econrad 16:48, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry about the lack of discussion. I know the guy, and two 'o's is how he spells it. Chris 00:43, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Not according to his official homepage. Also, the single "o" spelling gets 4 times the Google hits. Exploding Boy (talk) 15:59, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
The Americanized spelling is a reflection of American record producers. It's the same reason for Huun Huur Tu instead of Hün Hürtü. Americans would pronounce the name wrong if it was marketed with two o's. I corrected the actual Tyvan spelling and leave it to you fine editors to decide what to do with the Americanized name. --Stacey Doljack Borsody (talk) 04:47, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
~~ I think it should be -ool. According to this research article (archived version), it is spelled -ool. Most other Tuvans use -ool (e.g., see Kaigal-ool Khovalyg). Kongar-ool's homepage may say -ol but that site hasn't been updated for a long time. The title on the photo in this article uses -ōl, perhaps that should be changed as well. 2604:2000:E88C:3900:B043:90A5:3B2B:2033 (talk) 07:17, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

Page move
[edit]The name "Kongar-ol Ondar" may or may not be the correct transcription from the cyrillic alphabet, but that is the name used on his records, his homepage, and for his Allmusic entry. Hekerui (talk) 11:51, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
