Two Names
[edit]I have just returned from a holiday in the area and had ammended the article slightly as a result - in both English AND GREEK some signs use Κολυμβάρι/Δήμος Κολυμβαρίου whilst others use Κολυμπάρι/Δήμος Κολυμπαρίου.
In reply to the message below, whilst the letters μ and π in Greek represent M and P, when put together they form mb unless they are at the beginning of a word, in which case they represent a B.
I think that Kolymbari seems to be the one that is most commonly used so perhaps for that reason the article title could be changed, but Kolymvari is not incorrect so it should't be changed on those grounds.
In fact if you look at Greek Wikipedia they use the β spelling not the μπ spelling (see http://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/Δήμος_Κολυμβαρίου). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.27.22.180 (talk) 16:20, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Kolymvari is WRONG
[edit]Because the locals have done this in their misunderstanding of the English language is no excuse: Kolymvari is WRONG. Even your Greek spelling 'Κολυμβάρι' is incorrect - it's 'Κολυμπάρι' - transliterated it's Kolimpari - not Kolimbari and DEFINITELY NOT Kolimvari.
The reason for this mistake is common. Such as the way Scandinavians mispronounce (and subsequently misspell) words with 'y' and 'j' interchangeably.
Note again: the correct spelling is 'Κολυμπάρι'. In Greek the diphthong 'μπ' is how they represent the 'b'. They don't have a 'b' because their 'b' (β - 'beta') is NOT PRONOUNCED as a 'b' - it's pronounced as a 'v' (veeta is how you say the name of the letter).
Which all makes it obvious how they messed this up. And they do mess it up - locally that is. But the official spelling of the village name is 'Κολυμπάρι' and there is no alternative spelling and if you knew anything about their language, their culture, or this village as we do then you'd see this too.
The current title of this article is therefore WRONG and should be corrected. The article itself has errors which we can correct; but the rest of the work is up to you.
