Some reasons why a page like this is better as a dab than a SIA

[edit]
  1. Consistency with the other 42000+ pages for ambiguous placenames.
  2. As a dab page anyone who creates a link to this page gets a DPLbot notification suggesting that they improve the link to point to the specific article.
  3. As a dab page any inlinks come to the notice of the expert disambiguators.

We have all pages for Russia set as SIA pages, see for example Krasny, Russia. Kazakhstan is pretty much similar in the organization, and I do not see why Russia pages in this respect should be different from Kazakhstan pages. Note that there are hundreds of SET pages for Russian localities.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:41, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
One of the strengths (compared with the rest of the internet) of Wikipedia is its consistency - that helps both readers and editors. If Russian places with an ambiguous name are listed in a SIA, but for an equivalent case in other countries we use a dab page (e.g. Ab Kaseh) then that's an inconsistency we should try to avoid; not extend to neighboring countries. And, as I've explained above, there are advantages in a page like this being a dab rather than an SIA (SIAs tend to accrue inlinks - e.g. Anatolian currently has 20+ links). Well, Koktobe has a potential for 50+ links, this one of the most common Turkic names. And to me the consistency is when similar things are treated similarly. Russia and Kazakhstan are clearly similar in this respect. I believe nobody ever worked on dab/SIAs for Kazakhstan, this is why we do not have any consistency within Kazakhstan itself.--Ymblanter (talk) 22:22, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So, do you think wp pages for ambiguous placenames in Russia and Kazakhstan (approx 3k SIAs) should be different to the rest of the World (approx 43k dabs) or do you think that any/all other countries should use SIAs ? If the former, what makes Russia/Kazakhstan different from the rest of the World ? How is "Koktobe has a potential for 50+ links" relevant ? DexDor (talk) 05:13, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Good. If you want to change all Russian SIA pages into DAB, a better place to discuss would be Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Russia. May be we should indeed start there (Wikiproject Kazakhstan does not exist).--Ymblanter (talk) 06:35, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You're not answering any of the questions I asked. Actually, it would be better to ask at Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation whether different guidelines should apply to different countries. DexDor (talk) 06:57, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To answer the question, I do not care at this point about other countries except for the former Soviet Union, and those are similar due to the similar administrative and municipal organization. I do agree that if there is consensus to convert all Russian SIA pages into da, then the Kazakhstan pages should also all be converted into dabs. About Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation, I am not so sure since we are actually discussing dab vs SIA, I am not sure it is within the scope of the project.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:29, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
