Noting a dab alert re a certain change somewhere, and that this was originally written as Kokanee beer in 2006, then three edits later was transformed into a dab page by its creator, @Indefatigable:, and that the application PRIMARYTOPIC to dab pages in times since, has me wondering what is the primary topic here; I'd say it would have to be the fish, since all other usages are directly or indirectly from it; ie. the beer's name is derived from the Kokanee Glacier, which is derived from the creek, which is derived from the name of the settlement on Kootenay Lake and/or the fish. Across the range of places where this word is heard, the most common root meaning remains the fish; e.g. Kokanee, Colorado, which of course has nothing to do with the beer, but originates in the name of the fish. I don't think view-searches or googlestats are all that valid in case of root/origin meanings for single word usages of any term; but that what it means throughout its range, in the case western-montane North America, is clearly the fish. But there are those who are hard and fast on quantitative evaluation of PRIMARYTOPIC even ruling in favour of multiple-word titles (ignoring about three guidelines while doing so)....the reality is that nobody will ever refer to the glacier or the park as "Kokanee", the beer, yes, but it's only found in BC; not in Montana, Washington, Colorado...or even any other province of Canada. So what is the PRIMARYTOPIC, peeps? Myself I think this should be for the fish; I suspect google stats will even demonstrate that....Skookum1 (talk) 11:50, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
