"Corrections"
Help. I've updated the references on this page. How do I get the verification messages removed from the top of the page? Karrie411 (talk) 03:47, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
(I hope I am commenting correctly) There is a small detail I noticed that could use an edit. In the section regarding the ethnic makeup of the student body, we are told that 25% of the student body was "people of color." I thought it was quite noticeable that no percentage of white students was given. I see this as a small but not insignificant example of how "white" is synonymous with "default American." White students aren't counted, because everyone who isn't a "person of color" needn't be identified with any named ethnicity. The white students don't have an ethnicity. They are just white. Neutral, everyday white. This is clearly a case of false consciousness.
Incidentally, I would like to add my two cents to the use of the term "person of color" as a catch-all term for most of the world. Firstly, it neglects the etymology of the phrase "person of color," which was applied exclusively to African slaves and the "rainbow coalition" of "mulattoes," "quadroons," and all the rest of the nonsense categories used to prop up white supremacy and thereby justify the slave trade. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:241:301:7B7:84CA:29DC:2483:E7E (talk) 07:43, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
"Pictures"
Could some current students (or anyone else who has some) please take some pictures of the campus (Seymour Library and Old Main) and kindly add them to the article? Many thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Knoxalum (talk • contribs) 09:37, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
"Honorary Degrees"
Is it really appropriate to list all these recipients of honorary degrees? It doesn't seem to be a standard practice, and it seems pretty irrelevant, considering the association of these famous figures with Knox College is in most cases limited to a speaking engagement. I am deleting this section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.232.149.202 (talk) 02:41, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
"Colbert"
Colbert isnt actually an alumnus. He received an honorary degree, and it should not be implied otherwise.
- Definitely agree w/ you. Quite obvious, actually. Unsuspected 06:56, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
"sorority"
Ok, someone really doesn't like the word "sorority" and keeps moving some of the sororities into the fraternities listing with the note "(all-female)". Rather than continue the pointless edit war, I've relabelled the section and rearranged them as "male", "female", and "coed". /blahedo (t) 05:40, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Knox College Seal.png
Image:Knox College Seal.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Violence claims
I've removed two recently-added, highly one-sided claims that Knox College was negligent or taking the side of criminals in violent incidents. In particular:
- A section named "Campus Murder", which claimed that someone was "brutally" murdered (not in source, and sensationalist opinion) and that "it was determined the college was negligent" (the source was documenting the plaintiff complaint, and it was definitely not "determined" yet, if it ever was). The "negligent" act of the college was claimed to be not "providing adequate lighting and security services"; there is no source or information on whether that is even a valid claim in Illinois, let alone that "it was determined".
- A section named "Sexual Assault Incidents", which started out by saying that during the "school year alone, multiple complaints were received", as if anything more than 1 report is amazing for a college to have. It then claimed that "Knox administration has encouraged plaintiffs to not take their case to the Galesburg Police Department", when the source implies exactly the opposite.
These are clear violations of Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, not to mention Wikipedia:Verifiability (since claims aren't in the sources given) and Wikipedia:Reliable sources (claims of plaintiffs presented as facts on Wikipedia). The same user appears to have added the murder claims a second time (along the sexual assult claims the latter time) when it was removed. For these to be in a Wikipedia article, a determination needs to be made about whether this "history" is being given undue weight — are these two things going to matter to someone reading about Knox College 50 years from now? If these two lawsuits were in the 1950s instead, would it be important enough to put in the articles now? And then, even if they were relevant, WP:SYNTHESIS, opinions claimed as facts, and unsourced claims of illegal behavior are not allowed on Wikipedia. Claims of scandalous behavior require stronger verifiability than one student newspaper article and coverage of one side of a lawsuit: See Wikipedia:Verifiability#Exceptional claims require exceptional sources. --Closeapple (talk) 03:07, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Truth?
I can agree with Closeapple in that the latter section is not only relevant and a given for most colleges, but is unimportant to the overall article. However, the section regarding the murder is truthful, however poor sourced it was. I think at some point on my to-do list is an expansion on the history section (Knox's history is really very interesting in detail), and I may consider including the murder detail with better sources. It was a significant event in the college's history in that it prompted a new President that turned the college's financial and academic picture around quite dramatically. ----tigerfan1 (talk) 06:50, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

DNG?
What does "DNG" mean in the list of allumni? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.141.4.36 (talk) 20:20, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
- I am pretty sure that that means "Did Not Graduate". I agree that that is not clear. I also think that it is more significant that they were students there at some time than whether they graduated, unless it is specified why they did not graduate. Did they flunk out or go off to fight the civil war? Sterrettc (talk) 23:13, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
