Described pronunciation seems different to that from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/knout ?
- Yep. Same in OED([1]). Changed. EdC 18:16, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- And Wiktionary. Adding wikt-link; we can probably strip out the pronunciation and etymology. EdC 18:28, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Removed merger suggestion
[edit]While similar to a cat-o-nine tails, a knout is not the same thing. Similar to how a rapier and a basket-hilted sword share many common qualities and usages, both the knout and the cat-o-nine tails have many similarities yet are most definitely different items. Also, the merger suggestion was up for over a year and there seems to be no argument advocating the merger. Darqcyde (talk) 19:43, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

[edit]@Altenmann: you are absolutely right that I didn't read the article "Кнут, орудие наказания". However, the statement I made -- "some versions have multiple lashes connected by metal rings, with a hard end piece" and footnoted to that source was already made in the body of the article, with that source. If that is a "fake reference", it should be removed from the article altogether. --Macrakis (talk) 20:59, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- The reference is and was OK. The disputed statement was not footnoted by Efron and was and is unreferenced. It was in the same paragraph when you copyedited it, so you probably got confused during quick reading. --Altenmann >talk 02:37, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
