I think the parent style of this is not Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but more likely one of the Japanese Ju Jitsu styles that Jigaro Kano incorporated into Judo. The actual reference used in this article is a book by Neil Adams who is a prominent British Judo expert, particularly in Ne Waza or groundwork. Also the fact that the Japanese name of Uki Gatame is used suggests it's Japanese parentage. Perhaps Jigaro Kano's student Mitsuyo Maeda taught this to the Gracie family. I suggest the parent art be altered to Judo or Japanese Ju Jitsu. It may be difficult to trace it to earlier than that although it may have existed in various grappling styles worldwide.
