Tyne and Wear

[edit]

In the lead and categories, I have moved the setting from Tyne and Wear to Northumberland based on my reading of the interview we have cited: the coal-mining towns were "10 or 12 miles from Newcastle" (although the name Stoneygate is from "an area of my hometown"). Seeing now that this article was a school assignment in Durham, it occurs to me now that the setting might be there, but I supposed Newcastle's north side of the river.

There are several uncertainties here, some of which should be clarified in our biog David Almond. From the interview and quick look at some of our articles, I believe that his birthplace Felling was more urbanized (we should say Felling, Gateshead); his hometown was, maybe still is, less urbanized. It was a coal-mining town but I'm not sure that means active when he grew up there. I don't know whether that location is now in Tyne & Wear. And so on.
