I agree the Kishwer_Faulkner page should be merged into the Kishwer_Falkner,_Baroness_Falkner_of_Margravine page. This is the format used in all other peer articles, and I only found the unattributed Faulkner page through the Baroness Falkner of Margravine page. Corvus 00:31, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously, yes.

I met Baroness Falkner last week and have her business card in front of me. It reads as follows:

Baroness Kishwer Falkner

Baroness Falkner of Margravine

New chair being sought

[edit]

@Daff22: Why is it irrelevant to this article that a new chair is being sought? This suggests that the Labour government is not happy to see Falkner continue as chair, which is relevant to her as an individual. Sweet6970 (talk) 13:08, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Chair of the EHRC has normally sat for 4 years. In fact the advert for the new Chair specifies that it is for a 4 year term.[1]. Falkner's term is coming to an end and has been extended, to include a period where the EHRC are publishing both an updated Code of Practice and their new Strategic Plan.[2] To imply this means that the Labour government is somehow unhappy with her in the role would be to introduce OR and a non-neutral POV. Daff22 (talk) 16:11, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
According to the Guardian, the govt is looking for a ‘new chair’. The ordinary meaning of ‘new’ in this context is ‘different from Kishwer Falkner’. I don’t think this amounts to OR, but in any event, I am not suggesting that our article should say that the govt wants someone different, but merely that we should repeat the language in the Guardian. Sweet6970 (talk) 21:08, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your fully acknowledge in your first comment that the wording suggests that the Labour government is not happy to see Falkner continue as chair, which is relevant to her as an individual. That is non-neutral speculation, based on interpretation. Daff22 (talk) 09:58, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since I did not put my interpretation into the article, I don’t think that you have any grounds for complaint on this point. Sweet6970 (talk) 17:55, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your justification for its relevance to this article was the interpretation, i.e. it was about Falkner because it implied that Labour was not happy with her. Outside of that interpretation, there is really no relevance to this article. The amended wording removes the inherent bias in the original wording, but quite frankly it remains an unnecessary, and unencyclopedic, inclusion. However, it is not a point that is worth protracted discussion, the bias and implication have been mitigated, and that will have to do. Daff22 (talk) 19:33, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest:
the equalities minister, announced that Falkner’s four-year term would be extended for a further 12 months, with a new chair being sought to take office after Falkners extended term ends.Mattymmoo (talk) 10:47, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I support Mattymmoo’s suggested wording. Sweet6970 (talk) 13:08, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
While I still don't see how it is neccessary to this article, given the extension isn't open ended, I would be happier with the proposed wording. Daff22 (talk) 09:58, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have now made the change. Sweet6970 (talk) 18:01, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
