Is this story told correctly, or is the translation incorrect? The text says Kisa lost her only child, but in the translation, she refers to "sons" (plural). Marina M. (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:04, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
This article had included the full text from Thanissaro Bhikkhu's translation, originally published at http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/sn/sn05/sn05.003.than.html. While "Access to Insight" (ATI, www.accesstoinsight.org) has a very generous copyright policy, it still requires that any copy of its text state clearly that the text came from ATI. This latter requirement is not acceptable to Wikipedia's (WP) policy.
Thus, to avoid a copyright violation, after consulting with WP Buddhist Admin Nat Krause, I removed the entire ATI text, left a pull-quote (less than a paragraph of the original text, in which Kisa Gotami declares she has seen the Deathless) and then added an end-note reference to the ATI article cited in the bibliography.
I know that many of us good-heartedly want to give others access to the Dhamma and see WP as an excellent means for doing so. Understandably though WP has certain expectations about articles that I feel compelled to abide by. I hope the above change is seen as appropriate by all.
If anyone has questions about this change, please post here or on my talk page. With metta, LarryR 13:01, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
