Right then, let's take a look....will make straightforward changes as I go (please revert if I accidentally change the meaning) and jot queries below: Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:52, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lead needs to be a little larger - make two paragraphs of most salient facts, avoiding isolated sentences.
This has potentially been fixed. SL93 (talk) 21:38, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
... forged American into a land of wonder.. - "America"?
The typo is now fixed. SL93 (talk) 21:33, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You have two geography sections.
Now there is only one. SL93 (talk) 21:33, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Might be a dumb question...but how does a town of only 1400 people become a city?
Not sure, but their website says City of Kingsley and they have a city hall. SL93 (talk) 21:33, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Are there any nearby reserves, national parks, rivers etc. or is it all farmland?
It's all farmland. SL93 (talk) 21:33, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Some sort of note to that effect would be good - also would expand otherwise stubby Geogrpahy section...Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 01:43, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure that one of the books about Kingsley that I will check out tomorrow morning will mention that it is surrounded by farmland, but I'm drawing a blank online about that fact. I did some expansion to the Geography section and I think that's probably all that can be added. The geography isn't all that impressive with no rivers, lakes, mountains, rock formations, etc. I'm thinking that maybe the Geography section and the Transportation section can be merged together since they are related. SL93 (talk) 03:03, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I added that fact and referenced it. SL93 (talk) 00:18, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
All paras in the Demographics section need a cite at the end of them at a minimum. If I use a cite that covers a whole paragraph, I might pop a <!-- cite covers paragraph --> so that we know what it covers. Maybe combine some paras for better flow anyway
I fixed that issue. SL93 (talk) 21:33, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I reckon with history as recent as this, there will be some council discussion of origin of name.
I managed to find the origin of the name. SL93 (talk) 23:59, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Do we know much about the politics, have the council been mostly Republican, for instance, or what?
I can't find anything about the city council's political leanings, but Nick Rolling is a co-owner of an oil company in Kingsley and Dave Dugan is an insurance agent at a company in Kingsley. Maybe worth adding that information?
Yeah, why not? Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 01:43, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I added that information. SL93 (talk) 02:44, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was actually able to meet with city council member Keith Bohle and he informed me that no documents state their political party because it was never needed to be known for the city council. SL93 (talk) 15:20, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Iowa Highway 140 runs straight by Kingsley, Iowa - does this mean 500 m or 10 km? Also, may as well list on/off ramp numbers....
I added where Iowa Highway 140 connects to Kingsley, but I'm not entirely sure what you what you mean by 500 m or 10 km and on/off ramp numbers. SL93 (talk) 21:33, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I mean when the road is parallel to the town - how close does it come by. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 01:43, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I added that information, but I don't see any ramp numbers on any online maps so I don't think there are any. SL93 (talk) 03:17, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I just figured out what you meant by ramp numbers. There are none. SL93 (talk) 00:22, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
what does "platted" mean? link or explain...
I searched for a definition of plat and I got this from Merriam-Webster, "plan out or make a map of (an area of land, especially a proposed site for construction)." Should I put the explanation in the article? SL93 (talk) 21:33, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Why not just say "laid out"? Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 01:43, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I changed it to laid out. SL93 (talk) 02:44, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway start with all this stuff - it's also a little choppy, with small segments, but will wait till more material added before copyediting it all. I am happy to cut folks some slack timewise chasing down sources Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 13:11, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why it's called a city, but their official website calls it the City of Kingsley and they have a city hall. All that surrounds Kingsley is farmland. I searched for a definition of plat and I got this from Merriam-Webster, "plan out or make a map of (an area of land, especially a proposed site for construction)." SL93 (talk) 16:04, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's looking alot better - don't sweat it if we can't find everything, I am happy to cut some slack timewise if the momentum is there. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 03:17, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm in Kingsley right now so I will stop at the library again tomorrow and potentially the city hall to see if I can get anything more. Hopefully the weather isn't bad. SL93 (talk) 03:28, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@SL93: some photos in not-sunny weather might be good too....Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 20:43, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can take more photos and it is all gray from thunder clouds that are just coming in. I just wasn't sure if the weather would be too bad to make them look fine. SL93 (talk) 21:07, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Give it a whirl and see what happens. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 04:09, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I added two more pictures. SL93 (talk) 19:34, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Overall:

Pass or Fail: - Nice detective work! The extra material has really improved the article. The prose could probably do with some more massaging if you wanna make a tilt at FAC at some point. and some more facts about the place might be good in that case, but anyway I think it fulfils GA criteria now. cheers, Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 11:02, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination May 2017

[edit]

With regard to Template:Did you know nominations/Kingsley, Iowa, is there an online citation for the hook stating that.. Kingsley was once named Quorn after the Quorn Hunt in England? Am willing to take on good faith, but would be handy. found something here:
