Three petal triangular footprint and smooth exterior is desifned to reduce wind loads.

Kingdom Tower location overlooks the Red Sea. According to Adrian Smith, contrary to the belief that it is not wise to build a giant skyscraper in the "middle of nowhere, the hundreds of undeveloped acres around Kingdom Tower will be one of it's greatest assets, as it can be developed with respect to the Kingdom Tower and will all be owned by the develop. Smith draws a parallel to the failed Chicago Spire project in Downtown Chicago, in which the developer owned none of the surrounding land that would have profited from his project.

Impact

As with many other supertall skyscrapers, including the Kingdom Centre in Riyadh, Kingdom Tower is intended to create a landmark and raise it's surrounding land value more than to be directly profitable.

Criticism

Rory Olcayto states, "it's futile."

Construction

Initial soil testing was performed in 2008. The foundation has been designed and the piling contract with _ has been tendered.
