For those at Camp Hansen

[edit]

Any Marines or Naval personnel stationed at Camp Hansen should contribute to this page. It has been years since I was in Oki and I did what I could for this but quite frankly memory goes away. Please add to this if you have been there, otherwise people will not know about the experience we have had there. Thanks.

Yeah, well, there's not really much to say about it, and even less that is verfiable through anything than the editor's memory... I've never sene any sort of article or website about this town. Bahamut0013 01:56, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was in Japan from 1991-1992 as a Marine's wife living there on a student visa, going to college at Kadena and working on both Hansen and Kadena. I lived out in Kin in a three story apartment above a little bar owned by my "Mama San", the landlord. She would drag me down the street to her friend who knew English and Japanese if she needed to communicate with me. I knew a "Drinkie Girl" very well there. We met by chance via the roof tops of Kin. I would sit on the roof of our building to read and soak up the humid sun on my days off. She and four other girls were living in a building across the street, locked on the roof during the day and brought down into street level bar during the evening to attract the men into buying watered down drinks. She was from the Philippines as most of the women were. My friend was told she would be able to work and send money to her family. She had no opportunities to make money in her hometown so she agreed. The reality was very different. She was a indentured survent. The Boss Man had five girls in one room built onto the roof of the three story cinderblock building. The room had one lightbuld hanging from the center, two windows near the one door. They would do thier laundry in the day and hang out the cloths to dry on long clothes lines across the roof. They would blow in the hot, humid breeze as the women did thier nails and brushed eachothers hair. At dusk the iron grate in the roof would lift open. I did not see them in town but I did visit her in the bar. She was a good friend. Before I left she said she would try to marry an American and come to California to see me. That was her only way out you see. To marry a man who would save her. The Diving was incredible. The Sushi was incredible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.203.158.199 (talk) 21:25, August 24, 2007 (UTC)

Cam Hansen Disbo

[edit]

I was stationed at Camp Hansen from September 1982 - September 1983 and again November 1984 - November 1985. I worked at Disbursing managing the pay for rotating Battalions along with 3rd Recon, Ammo Co, and 7th Comm. I loved Oki. I bought a car for $80.00 and drove it all over the island every weekend. Great Times! 17:50, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Kirk65.201.156.196 (talk) 17:50, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
