Tourist blurb
[edit]whoever keeps adding all the tourist style description please don't. it's not appropriate for wikipedia and also causes people to remove important and legimate information when reverting the changes or tidying them up.
look up any small town in any other dictionary if you need an example of how it should look.
I have a feeling the person who wrote that last piece was being ironic. I for one thought it was hysterically cutesy and was disappointed to see the dry, though admittedly encyclopediacally appropriate, current version. BTW I don't think you'll find small towns in a dictionary?!
Well maybe a Bill Bryson book is a more appropriate source for humorous articles on small town history. Or maybe the submitter could start write one themseleves. God knows there are enough ways to publish on the web these days. But yeah an Encyclopedia would probably be better than a dictionary.
I am from this town, and although there may not be a huge amount to say about the place, a bit about the history of the town instead of going straight into the transport would seem to make sense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.81.108.35 (talk) 00:49, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Derivation of "culchie"
[edit]I injected a note of doubt into the notion that the word definitely derives from coillte, partly because it may be foolhardy to contradict the OED quite so brusquely, and partly to align with the Culchie article. Harfarhs (talk) 10:32, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Agreed. In honesty I wonder if that entire section should be heavily summarised. To just a sentence or two. Focusing solely on the proposed connection to Kiltimagh. Otherwise the stuff about "Dublin in the 1960s" has got little to nothing to do with the topic here (the town in Mayo) and otherwise runs the risk of becoming (as you note) a CFORK of stuff already covered elsewhere... - Not having heard any thoughts otherwise, I have further summarised the section. To remove the stuff about the word "culchie" (which is uncited and best covered in the relevant article anyway) and the stuff about "Dublin in the 1960s" (which was equally misplaced).
