Requested move
[edit]I've put in at requested moves to move this page to David Wilkie (taxi driver), which is currently a redirect to UK miners' strike (1984–1985)#Consequences. I don't anticipate opposition, but if there is, the procedure is shown on the requested moves page. Sam Blacketer 00:47, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, just to explain why User:GTBacchus moved it back; 'taxicab' rather thab 'taxi' is the accepted WP usage - see Category:Taxicabs. HTH. TerriersFan 02:47, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- I find that a bit of a mistake; taxi is the term in common British use where taxicab is much less used. But it's a small issue. Sam Blacketer 09:52, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Notability
[edit]Sorry about this but there is nothing notable about David Wilkie; what was notable was his death and the implications for the miners' strike. There is a precedent in another article that, by coincidence, I created namely Murder of Julie Ward, and others.
My suggestion is to move the article to Killing of David Wilkie (it was not in the end murder) which puts the emphasis on the pivotal moment of the article. TerriersFan 02:13, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm. Certainly David Wilkie was not notable for anything other than the fact he was killed, and the manner in which he was killed and the fact it was part of a highly newsworthy story made him notable only as an extreme example of the violent retributions against working miners. You're right to observe that Wilkie's death was found to be manslaughter and not murder (probably if his passenger had been killed, it would have been murder). I wonder if David Wilkie attack or David Wilkie killing would be slight improvements on your suggestion? I would be interested in hearing what others say. Sam Blacketer 09:58, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- First of all, thank you for finding the references. I can add Manslaughter of David Wilkie to the options. Actually, I don't feel strongly about which one to go for provided we don't leave it as it is! TerriersFan 16:26, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- Seems a pity but no-one else has contributed here and I think it's about time to conclude this debate and move the page. I'm not attracted by Manslaughter of David Wilkie because that seems somewhat legalistic; 'Killing' is probably the best term. Sam Blacketer 21:59, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- Somebody has added the description of Wilkie as a sodomite. What evidence is there for this claim and is it relevant? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.88.123.137 (talk) 13:04, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Third man
[edit]"A third man, Anthony Williams... was acquitted... A third miner, Dean Williams, was cleared of conspiracy to cause serious injury"
Are Anthony and Dean the same person? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:13, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I came here to ask that same question. It hasn't been addressed in 18 months. It seems to me that the reference to Anthony is from an informed source as it has other information, and that the reference to Dean was tacked onto the end of the paragraph. My own best source is https://apnews.com/1de29685bd7ec13bb43a0c1a0fbf272a, which also has Anthony. So I am going to delete the line about Dean.--Doric Loon (talk) 13:34, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
