Merge?
[edit]I feel a numeric keypad is specific to a computer keyboard, and is worth its own little article. Keypads cover all sorts of other devices - telephone keypads, calculators, door entry systems... Therefore, I'm against the merge. Davidbod 23:41, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- there should be an explanation of how keypads work (contacts on PCB, carbon pils on silicon keypad etc) 58.168.77.151 04:51, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that computer keyboard numeric keypads (standalone or otherwise) and phone keypads are sufficiently different things to warrant separate entries. Their applications are in different fields, appropriate for the outputs they need to put off. --SD 203.214.137.125 23:12, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- Numeric keypads are a type of keypad. They are a subset of the larger catagory "keypad". Therefore, they could be included in the same entry, though they warrant noting separately. 12.32.32.146 08:52, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Should be merged. For the reader a keypad is a keypad, regardless if it sits on their computer keyboard, the calculator, the vending machine or the virtual calculator on the smartphone. Splitting these just adds to the confusion.

Difference Between Telephone and Other Keypads
[edit]The explanation of why telephone keypads and computer/other keypads are different is a little confusing. I don't know enough about this to explain this any better, but someone who does could make this section clearer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.8.232.153 (talk) 21:35, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- Agreed, and I tried. Note that I have not made an effort (yet) to make this a hub page for keyboards, phone keypads, calculator keypads etc. It is entirely possible that this should be practically a disambiguation page, with links out to those. If so, then calculator and telephone keypads will both need either the content, or a link to an article explaining the ordering difference. Rick Boatright (talk) 03:19, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
The only telephone a common user might come across is a smartphone. The other keypad most likely is a vending machine or an ATM. The other might be the remote control of their TV or Media equipement. All should be addresses in a similar fasion. Theking2 (talk) 15:46, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
Maybe Keyboard matrix circuit article could focus on circuitry
[edit]I noticed https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Keypad&diff=1167955607&oldid=1167954883 removed quite a bit of useful circuit diagrams. I haven't following the edit history of this page, but it seems those circuit diagrams were quite useful, particularly the recent one showing what looks like a Charlieplexing configuration. Edit: I've added Keyboard matrix circuit to the see also section...maybe those diagrams could be moved there and have that article discuss various circuity configurations.
