Listed buildings and English Heritage

[edit]

I noticed that the phrase "by English Heritage" had been removed from the sentence about a listed building. My understanding (as stated on Listed building ) is that: In England and Wales the authority for listing is granted by the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and is presently administered by English Heritage, an agency of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Does anyone have any information to the contrary?— Rod talk 17:40, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blimey, that was fast. The above quote is not wrong but "Decisions as to which buildings are listed are taken by the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, who is required by the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 to compile a list of buildings of special architectural or historic interest." http://www.culture.gov.uk/what_we_do/historic_environment/3330.aspx As you have linked to the listed building page, I thought the shortened sentence adequate. Didn't think anyone would notice! Mark Wheaver (talk) 17:58, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't mind - as you say they can get it from the Listed building article, but I've used the phrase on hundreds of articles, particularly those for GA & FA where our American colleagues have no concept of a "listed building" & in the past I've had to justify the notability of listed buildings and why I was including them in articles about towns & villages. I wanted to know if what I had written was actually "wrong".— Rod talk 18:05, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
