Beginning of Iron Age?
[edit]In the section on Early History, the following sentence appears: "About 500 BC the Iron Age was introduced into the area by a continental people in the form of the Hallstatt culture...". I don't think that's a widely-held view of archaeologists now, for 2 reasons. First, the Iron Age is held to be from 800BC onwards, and secondly, the idea of 'continental migration' is very much out of favour, as there's no evidence for it. I suggest something more like "After the social and technological changes which mark the beginning of the Iron Age around 800BC, settlement in the area seems to have increased, and a Hill Fort was constructed at Irthlingborough 16km (10 miles) away around 400BC. However there is no evidence of occupation at Kettering itself." Or, even completely removing that part and just saying (after mentioning the sparse "Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic" finds, "There is no evidence of occupation in the immediate area in the Bronze Age or Iron Age." Roman period
[edit]In the Roman section: "Like most of what later became Northamptonshire, from early in the 1st century BC the Kettering area became part of the territory of the Catuvellauni, a Belgic tribe, the Northamptonshire area forming their most northerly possession".
However, in the Catuvellauni page, the tribal area doesn't extend in Northamptonshire at all. So, what's the evidence for and against the tribal area of Northamptonshire? I propose a re-write saying that it isn't known if the Kettering area was part of the Catuvellaunian or Corielatauuian area - unless someone does know, in which case I'll bow to superior knowledge. Education
[edit]I presume Hayfield Cross School did open in 2015 but I have no source for this. Can anybody provide one and make the necessary alteration? Spinney Hill (talk) 09:15, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
