- That’s ridiculously inaccurate statement. —GrantNeufeld (talk) 06:39, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Just a little humor to keep the mind off the miserable state of Alberta politics. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.144.16.98 (talk) 15:16, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Quadriplegic
[edit]I removed the incorrect statement that Hehr is quadriplegic back in November (he is in fact paraplegic, as he still has the use of both arms). This was reverted without comment, probably because the press commonly (albeit incorrectly) describes him as quadriplegic. I have reverted back to paraplegic and added a reference to a CBC News article that uses the correct term. DES (talk) 10:15, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for reliably sourcing the correction; too often people make unsourced changes to articles on here based on assertions of private personal knowledge, which aren't allowed to stand because they fail our verifiability requirement. However, I'd suggest that there's enough confusion about it — and enough potential for people to change it back to quadriplegic again based on one of those other sources that say quadriplegic — that I'd suggest it might be appropriate in this case to add something on the order of "although some sources incorrectly describe him as quadriplegic" to the full-on body text instead of just a hidden comment. Bearcat (talk) 19:29, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
It's not "some sources." He's a C-5 quadraplegic. This is a fact. When you have an injury on c-level part of one spine, it leads to quadraplegia.
Look at this: http://www.apparelyzed.com/quadriplegia-quadriplegic.html
Due to the damage on his C-5 vertebrae he is quadraplegic. If he had damage to his T-vertebrae, he'd be paraplegic.
And he's said: “We stopped at a red light. We look over. They look over. The next thing you know some guy pulls out a gun. The gun goes off. It hits me in the neck. I am a C5 quadriplegic.” (Emphasis mine) - http://calgaryherald.com/news/politics/liberal-winner-kent-hehr-got-green-light-to-celebrate-from-conservative-opponent
Here is an additional article where he is described as a C-5 Quadraplegic. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/kent-hehr-gets-personal-veterans-affairs-revamp-1.3348926 And another http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/kent-hehr-cabinet-calgary-liberal-trudeau-1.3303439 And another https://albertaviews.ab.ca/2015/09/14/mr-congeniality/
His diagnosis is quadraplegic, the media (third party) refers to him as quadraplegic, and he himself refers to himself as a quadraplegic. Medical science, himself, and third-parties referenced above are point to the clear diagnosis of him being a quadraplegic. Because of this, I'm reverting the page back to being a quadraplegic.
