Let me see if I have pictures of Kennewick. It's pretty strange to show the picture selected in the article currently - it's taken in Richland and looks 180 degrees in the opposite direction from Kennewick. Umptanum (no I didn't hijack this name - just lost my password) 01:24, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Uploaded a replacement that has Kennewick in it. Not a great photo, but it makes no sense to have a picture of Richland and West Richland in a Kennewick article. UmptanumRedux 01:40, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Meaning of Name

While searching Wiki I wanted to know what they had about Kennewick. One thing that made me scratch my head is it said the meaning of the word is "grassy place" which runs agianst my long thought idea that it meant Winter Haven which is what I had been told for years (lived here for just under 20 years I think).

A visit to the Tri-Cities Visitor and Covention Bureau (http://www.visittri-cities.com/) says that "Kennewick was first home to the Chemnapum Indians. The name means "Winter Haven," an appropriate title as the tribe gathered in the mild climate to trade, fish and pasture their horses."

A search on the City of Kennewick's web site (http://www.ci.kennewick.wa.us/) gave two results to the phrase "Winter Haven" and yet none to "Grassy Place".

The only refence I found (abit I wasn't really looking for it) to Grassy Place was on the KGH site there is this line "The name Kennewick is derived from "kin-i-wack," an Indian name meaning "grassy place." Is there any offical word on this anywhere, looking at certian sites, ie Tri-City Herald and others, at times both terms come up often however Winter Haven does seem to happen more often. Maybe putting a line in mentioning Winter Haven? Lone Jobber 13:55, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Famous People

I came by to look up famous people from Kennewick and noticed Adam Carriker wasn't there. I added him in and it was immediately changed for being "unconstructive." How is Jeremy Bonderman a famous Tri-Citean but Carriker isn't? He was Big XII defensive lineman of the year, the 12th overall draft pick and is currently a starter in the NFL (and has a pretty expansive wikipedia page). How is that not a famous resident? He was a local god when he played out here. I just don't see how inserting an NFL starter is less famous then some of the people mentioned.

Also, Kimo Von Oelhoffen should be mentioned for pretty much the same reason. 71.115.225.150 (talk) 07:57, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Nu Metal bands in Kenenwick

The recently added section on Nu Metal bands playing in Kennewick doesnt fit with the rest of the section. The History section is about how Kennewick came to be and how it was settled. Putting recent events in the article causes confusion about the significance of these events.

To put it plainly, the fact that this or that band played (or in this case, didnt play) in Kennewick will have almost NO significance outside the context of those following that band. The history section of this article is not a fansite, and not a bulletin of current events.

I would like to see some reasonable justification of why this is an important event in the history of Kennewick. I suggest some commentary on how this will affect the future growth of the community, or how this is in any way a defining moment for any significant part of the people in Kennewick.

Without something that justifies the insertion of this current event into the history of the City, it will have to be removed. Please tell us what you think, Thanks! Nothingofwater (talk) 23:39, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Old bridge piers

Slurpee - delete

Timmerman Ferry

A USGS map of the period (Pasco, Wash. 1917 reprinted 1922) places the Timmerman Ferry near the current location the the Interstate 182 Bridge. The following text has been removed from the article.

A cable ferry operated between the west end of Kennewick and the Pasco side of the river from 1894 to 1931.

Notable People: Janet Krupin

Janet Krupin should be reinstated as a Notable Person. In addition to the references added on 28 November 2013, she is now performing in her third Broadway musical -- If/Then (starring Idina Menzel, http://www.ifthenthemusical.com/cast.php). Notable may not mean the same thing to you as it does on Wikipedia. Notable here means "qualifies to have an article about them". To qualify for an article, a person must have had significant detailed coverage in multiple reliable sources. Not sure she qualifies. In addition, her connection with this community must be referenced in order for her to be included in this article's notable people section. John from Idegon (talk) 23:25, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
