[edit]The Park was known in the early 1900s as Dobbins Field. It was given to Cork Corporation(now Cork City Council) some time around 1942. There was a formal bequest by the Dobbin Family to Cork Corporation that the field should be used as an amenity area or facility for the people of Cork. The Dobbin Family resided nearby in Knockrea House Blackrock Road.
