There is a discrepancy

There is a discrepancy between the Wiki article and the USA Weekend article that is linked. On Wiki, it says that Keith battled drug and alcohol addiction around the year 2001. However, in the magazine article, it says that he battled just drug addiction around the period of 1998 and cleaned up in 1998. I am a huge KU fan and I have heard and read other accounts of his drug addiction happening in the late 90's. He was cleaned up by the time he started to hit big in 2001. I am editing the article to reflect this.

Even 'reliable' news sources seem to have errors in their information. I just read an article by E!Online that said that Keith did his 1st rehab in the early 90's! He didn't even come to the States until 1992!Kiwi123 22:51, 25 January 2007 (UTC)kiwi123

Grammar

In the first sentence, New Zealand is used as an adjective. It is not an adjective. You should change it to one of the proper adjectives for New Zealanders, for example: "Kiwi". -Grammar Police —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.200.135.196 (talk) 15:12, August 23, 2007 (UTC)

Residence

Does he still live in america?

Personal life

The most grievous grammar/syntax error is the first line of the Personal section where it talks about his 8 year relationship. It says that in 1992 he dated someone for 8 years... he dated someone for 8 years in one year? And also, it says they broke up in 2002, meaning they were together at least 9 years. As I know virtually nothing about Keith Urban and whether all these dates are correct, I can't fix this myself. 205.143.204.206 (talk) 21:09, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Instruments

I cleaned up the instruments in the info box so they linked correctly, but I have no idea what either a "papose" or a "poke" are. Nor could I find any information with a web search.

It's spelled "papoose", by the way. TenPoundHammer 22:34, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Change the photo!

That photo should really be changed to a better one. It is more a photo of Katie Couric acting all goofy than it is of Keith, the subject of the article! There are tons of great Keith photos, surely someone can post a better one. If I knew how, I would do it.

I'm going to upload a new one from the Karl Urban page. You should check out the karl Urban page it's got a article about Keith been related to Karl.

Who?

The most commonly asked question in Australia when we hear that Nicole Kidman is dating a fellow aussie named Keith Urban. He is absolutely unknown apart from being Nicole's handbag. Odd, considering Nicole spent the last decade being Tom's handbag. I really think the article should reflect that in his home country, Keith is a total unknown and thought of as a moocher riding the Nicole Kidman wave to fame. 211.30.80.121 09:58, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Is that because country music isn't popular in Australia? Non-country fans in the U.S. and Europe might not know who he is either, but he seems to be doing fine [1]. What you describe is somewhat common for many artists. Bufflo 12:47, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
The man is a Grammy winner, so it's going to take a lot more than one person to convincingly argue that no one in Australia knows who he is. I also highly doubt that the entire nation considers him a "moocher." Sounds like one person's opinion to me. Layla12275 14:03, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
come off it. in U.S. country music, Keith is one of the biggest and most popular artists. he's won a grammy, 2 entertainer of the year awards, 2 video of the year awards (which is fan-voted) and male entertainer of the year. CMT has given him nicknames such as "The King of Country". on August 21, he beat out Garth Brook's Billboard record by having the highes-debuting couuntry single in history. He has made a name for himself.
Keith Urban is a New Zealander not an Australian, living there doesnt mean thats your nationality. (♠Taifarious1♠) 04:15, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
I thought he was Australian. Anyway there are associated pages (eg. for some songs listed) where he is called American. Someone might care to fix those. 58.110.140.91 (talk) 03:05, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Except perhaps if it is the country in which you grew up. The country where you went to school and made friends. The country where you spent the entirety of your formative years and the country where you first developed your art and the country which had a significant influence on your music. Perhaps if it is the country that you refer to as home. Yeah, then that probably does make you an Australian. HTH.Ernest the Sheep (talk) 07:56, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Us New Zealanders haven't heard of the guy, either, and he was born in Whangarei, which is near my home town. Interesting that he's more famous in the US than he is in NZ and Aus, his home countries. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.143.76.26 (talk) 11:17, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
  • SOUR GRAPE ALERT: To the first person who posted, just because you have an opinion (re: the "moocher" comment) does not mean you are correct. I would like to say that if you took your comments to Keith's wife, Nicole Kidman-URBAN, that she would probably inform you likewise and with much more fevor! In my opinion Keith is a tremendous tallent in his own right and does not deserve to be run down by anyone. No matter where he was born, he is one damn fine Kiwi-Aussie-Adopted American artist. Irthumper (talk) 06:58, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Pop, country, or both?

If KU is not a country musician, and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are, then what constitutes a country musician? Bufflo 23:57, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Keith Urban is not country and Tim & Faith McGraw are both not country as well they are both pop! - Alakey2010 11:23 am, 05 July 2006

I know, I guess my point was that they're both listed as country artists on Wikipedia. Bufflo 17:14, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Keith Urban being a moocher and latching on to Nicole Kidman? Where have you been? In outer space? And talking about Keith being Nicoles hand bag! Didn't she carry Lenny Kravitz hand bag around for awhile? Keith has won best male country artist TWO YEARS IN A ROW!!Please give me a break! She has talent as an Actress and Keith has a God given talent to sing like an Angel. To play the guitar like I don't know who. But ,I could just set snd listen to his guitar riffs even if he didn't sing. And he sure doesn't hurt the eyes any! I hope thay will be happy! BUT, I hope Nicole doesn't try to hold him back in his career. He has worked his butt off for 10 years to now be top male entertainer 2 years in a row in country music. IT would be VERY sad to see his career go down Hill. [BLP vio removed] Hang in there Keith and hang on to your career while it is HOT! (User Sher NLR)

^^A little sanity would work for some people.

Alakey2010, since preferences are very personal, and something may sound country to one person and pop to another, I think the music industry's categorization and sales charts should be the deciding factor in whether or not KU is a country artist. Bufflo 02:39, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Keith considers himself to be a country artist, but many country artists nowadays are very pop-rockish.
The definition of country music has changed vastly over the past few decades. Many people now consider "Country Music" to refer to the Johnny Cash/Loretta Lynn era, while "Southern Pop" is more accurate for the current genre which has far more cross over appeal than the more traditional country stars did. I believe it is a matter of taste and how the artist defines themselves. Zja2 (talk) 17:36, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Keith is a multi-tallented musical artist/singer/songwriter who doesn't stay inside the box. His sound is a combination of country, rock, pop that he has called "funktry" in the past. Whatever his musical style Keith's fans call it "Aussome!" Irthumper (talk) 07:04, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

KU's age

I HAVE A QUESTION...IS THE BIRTH DATE RIGHT? BECAUSE KEITH URBAN IS REALLY GOING TO BE 40 IN 2007? HE DOES NOT LOOK 38!!!

Yes Alakey2010, KU was born 1967. He was blessed with good genes... Bufflo 23:01, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Well he does have good genes. Thanks Bufflo! 05:01 p.m., 17 August 2006 (CDT)

Why does it have two different birthdates listed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 10thdayoftheweek (talkcontribs) 00:16, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Regarding Keith and Niki Taylor

People Magazine ran an article about Niki Taylor on July 22, 2006, and they stated that Keith and Niki broke up in 2004. You can read the abridged article here: http://people.aol.com/people/article/0,26334,1217423,00.html. People Magazine is much more reliable than the often incorrect contactmusic.com anyways. UTLonghorn

People Magazine sucks!! If you don't like the contactmusic.com article, here are a couple of other articles that mention that the pair broke up in July of 2005!! You can keep referencing that stupid People article but it's wrong:

I'm sorry, but People Magazine is probably the most trustworthy gossip source out there. The article is an interview with Niki Taylor, so you're saying that she is lying? Those links are trash, sorry to say. UTLonghorn

Canadians banned

There is a e-mail circulating in Canada that Mr. Urban had the canadians leave one of his concerts . Would like to Know if this is true or needs to be disputed. It was the N.D. concert I believe.

Thanks

Unsigned, that's an urban legend (um, no pun intended). [2] --Bufflo 09:44, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

I have heard the same thing and can I say how disappointed I am. There are so many Canadian soldiers dying over in Afghanistan supporting the war against Terrorism. I think Mr. Urban should have kept his political opinion to himself. Especially now that he has checked himself into rehab for substance abuse, it just makes Americans look like junkies with hostility towards our brother country. I think he owes everyone an apology, the Canadians and the Americans!!!!

Samantha

Again, it's an urban legend (see above), that is, it's not true. Bufflo 15:05, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Suggestions

You may went to create seperate articles for the "lists", e.g.:

Stupid Boy

OMG!! I just saw the premier for Stupid Boy. If someone could update his page to tell about his new video, I would be glad to tell all about it. I just don't know how to update. And if anyone could find out about where he is now (in or out of rehab), that would be nice. LOL.. Thanx. LOVE YOU KEITH!!!

That is not the purpose of this article or Wikipedia. The article does link to KU's website, but Wikipedia is not a news service. Bufflo 03:11, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, but it does have to show that he does have a new video!! I came on so I could help and be nice, not to be told what WIKI is. I know what it is. You go on, you type in what you wanna know about, then they give you a page full of facts and details. Possibly to make you smarter. I am quiting wiki now, and I am sorry if I bothered anyone by saying I saw the new video.
Actually, no, it doesn't have to show that he has a new video. It never said it for any other video's he's made. Fan sites will list it, Wiki isn't going to have alist of "on this date, he released___" "on this date, he released____" —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.34.95.228 (talk) 23:11, 19 December 2006 (UTC).
Couldn't help but come to see a reply, but did you happen to notice that their was a list of VIDEOS recorded by Keith?? So, I thought I would be nice enough to help update that. And you make me feel like I am an idiot, I ain't. This is where I found the list of videos he has been in. For instance, until using this site, I didn't know it was KU in the shadows of 'MERCURY BLUES' Or I wouldn't have known he was in Kenny Chesney's new 'Live Those Songs'!! }:P

P.S. Would it be to much to ask to add where he got the name for his title? Or does that not BELONG on his page? Or that SARAH BUXTON wrote the 'Stupid Boy' song, and that he had an advance copy of Sarah's Cd, heard 'Stupid Boy', and asked if he could use the song?

You could add those things yourself, if you need more info on how Wikipedia works, here you go. As for the title of the new album and info regarding Stupid Boy, that would probably belong on the album's page and the song's page, respectively. Bufflo 09:26, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
FYI, I don't know how to work wiki, I am afraid I would screw something up. And, did you notice that in my original post I asked if anyone could help me out because I DON'T KNOW HOW TO UPDATE!! I don't know if your trying to or not, but I feel like you are being rude. And I would like it to STOP!!
Editing an article page works just like editing a talk page (like this one), again, here is an excellent place to start learning about Wikipedia. Bufflo 03:05, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Gee, Thanks! But no thanx. I don't need help. I was asking if someone else would mind doing it because I don't want to screw anything up. I tried to update 'Stupid Boys' place on the chart and that to me was hard. If no one will do it for me, then screw the whole idea!

Rehab/Amanda

Since details were inserted regarding events leading to his going to Betty Ford (the rumored dalliance with someone named Amanda Wyatt) and since such items are not really fully substantiated independently, I've added a couple of words that indicate it's a matter of gossip and rumor and not a confirmed fact.24.117.250.51 23:53, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, there's a lot of rumors on in this article, and maybe it should be locked down/protected. Bufflo 21:23, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Birth Name: Urbahn, Urbanski, or Urban

It currently says he was born "Richard Keith Urbanski", which was changed to "Keith Lionel Urban" before he was 2 years old. The IMDB entry says his birth name was "Lionel Keith Urbahn", with no mention of Urbanski. None of the other refs seem to mention Urbanski either. What's the reference for the Urbanski claim? And what about this "Urbahn" with an "h"? JackofOz 04:28, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Maybe the "h" was an accident?? And I haven't seen anything about the "Urbanski" either. I am about 90% sure he was born with the name Keith Lionel Urban, or he would have made reference to it somewhere. Or maybe I don't know him well enough and it is. Keith's Fan, Danielle
Wow!! That is soooooo weird. I never would have known that. I guess I need to work on resaerch some more. ; ) I thought I knew all there was to know about him. Also off the topic, if you have an iPod, I reccomend buying the sessions@aol album from Keith. Or at least just the You'll Think of Me. It has an extra verse in it that he normally only sings in concert. He sings so wonderfully Live, and these songs prove it.
  • NOTE: Correct birth name is "Keith Lionel Urbahn", according to Fortunate Son- The unlikely rise of Keith Urban, unauthorized biography penned by Australian author, Jeff Apter. Apter says that apparently Keith dropped the 'h' somewhere between Caboolture, Tamworth and Nashville. Apter also mentions that family members who remained in New Zealand kept the original spelling of Urbahn.(Source: Fortunate Son- The unlikely rise of Keith Urban, chapter one "The Lost H", pg 15). On a side note, no "official" music source that I have ever seen pertaining to Keith Urban (including his own website) has ever mentioned "Richard Keith Urbanski" as being his original birth name. Ask any long-time, hardcore Keith Urban fan and they will verify this. Irthumper (talk) 03:55, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
  • Straight from the man himself: http://countrymusic.about.com/library/blkuinterview.htm No mention of the spelling difference on the last name, but if it was done prior to Keith moving to the US then it's likely he didn't view it as all that significant, imo. Irthumper (talk) 07:10, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
  • I've just removed the references to Richard Keith Urbanski from the article once again, due to the fact that the only source that mentions that name is imdb.com and imdb is neither reliable nor sufficient proof of this. Since the man himself has confirmed his birth name in multiple interviews to be Keith Lionel Urban, and all his official bios state that, until someone can provide a source for "Richard Keith Urbanski" other than imdb, it should stay in the article as Keith Lionel Urban. SteveJ2006 (talk) 03:53, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

  • NOTE I am sorry and I am very tired of seeing questions about the Urbans names and have to correct the confusion about their 'surname' . I have just completed my family's history of Urbanski from my specific line which is from Haczow near Przymsl in Poland.

Robert Urban - is Keith's father (previously Urbahn previously Urbanski).

You see in N.Z. even adoptions are protected for 120 years. His real surname will be legally hidden. N.Z. Births Deaths etc has Robert Karl Urbahn (his father) listed on his birth records and born 26/6/1942 and where he was born is not correct as its stated in Hawera and Keith Lionel Urbahn as born 26/10/1967. The family have constantly changed their information as history shows.

You will be interested to know that our family originally in the 1500s started actually as 'Urban' and the King Sigismund III then added 'ski' and 'ska' to the end of the names. We became the House of Urbanski in 1602 in Haczow.

However he is of Nobility like me and uncomfirmed Royal ties from the House of Urbanski as I am(Robert that is) and my father was infact a Count until 1921.

At the end of the day Urbanski still equals = Urban. If there is ever any doubt a simple STR DNA Y chromosome 'cousin' test with a lick of a cottonbud will solve his heritage. His HAPLOGROUP will also put him in the area of the Carpathian Region of Poland. You see in males its almost 99.99% accurate to find a relative and distance back. Peter — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.171.196.7 (talk) 00:53, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

That's all very fascinating, but it may be close to irrelevant for this issue. Regardless of how the name changed over the years, and what his father/grandfather etc may have been known as, the only thing that's important is the name Keith Urban was given on the day he was born. And whether that was the name he now has, Keith Lionel Urban, or something else. -- Jack of Oz [Talk] 00:24, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
Sorry Jack but it's quite 'relevant' for surname clarrification; as his legal recorded (current) birth name in N.Z. is Urbahn. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.30.96.167 (talk) 10:40, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
That was exactly my point. What happened PRIOR TO his birth is irrelevant. Whatever his name was on Day 1 of his life, is what is called his birth name. If that happened to be Urbahn, so be it. If it happened to be something else, so be it. -- Jack of Oz [Talk] 11:13, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Website controversy

According to The Smoking Gun ( http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2007/0205071urban1.html ), Urban is attempting to force transfer of ownership for a website owned by another individual with the same name. As the site was established by someone with an actual similar name, and the site was established in 1999 (before the singer's American debut), motives and intent for both parties may be open to interpretation. MDonfield 18:54, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Personal nadir

The second paragraph of the biography describes how after reaching a personal nadir, Keith gave up the habit but never actually mentions what the habit is. There is reference where such a sentence should be that explains a history of drug problems but there was no text that actually describe it. I did a quick scan of hte article and put in a short sentence about Cocaine use but I think someone who reads the article more closely could do better. —mako (talkcontribs) 14:59, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Singles table added

I added a table denoting Keith's singles to date. I'm surprised one wasn't already added to this page. 68.188.191.9 04:50, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Education

You might want to mention that KU attended Ashgrove State School (a primary school in Brisbane) and was a budding musician even then. The only thing is that the source of this information is me, as I attended Ashgrove with him and remember his rivalry concerning things music with another student. Anyway for what it's worth.... --Jdcounselling 15:40, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Number ones on Australian charts

Page 30 of Country Weekly, dated December 5, 2005, states that Urban's 1991 album produced four #1's on the ARIA charts. That would mean that all four of the singles from the early 1990s did indeed peak at #1, as had been indicated previously. Please do not remove these peaks. Thank you. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 23:24, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Ten Pound Hammer, check the ARIA Charts. Keith Urban has never had a #1 single in Australia. On the page List of number-one singles in Australia during the 1990s (the list of number-ones on the page has been proven to be factual), it does not even mention the name Keith, let alone list him as having four number-one singles from his first album going to number-one. This Country Weekly obviously was false; it's not exactly beyond external sources to lie about these sorts of things; perhaps it meant he had four number-ones on the ARIA Country Singles Chart? I don't know because I'm not interested in country music (I only went onto this page to update it due to Urban's Greatest Hits: 18 Hits recently debuting at #7 on the ARIA Albums Chart). I am promptly removing it, as it's obviously false information, I mean, surely he would have set a record for the time, having four number-one singles from his album peaking at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart... User:Ss112 00:56, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
On another note, I just read into the article a bit and it reads that he charted four #1 singles on the Country hits (presumably the Country singles chart) in Australia from his first album. You could put this back into the article, but you would have to create a new column for the singles (the title could be AUS Country, and perhaps collect new info on his other singles charting on the chart to prevent it from looking blank), or even re-list the number-ones and provide supplemental explanations on how they were ARIA Country chart number-ones or the like. User:Ss112 01:02, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Okay, thanks ofr the verification, I should have known to check first! The ARIA country charts indeed appear to be what he peaked at #1 on. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 02:41, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

"Polish descent"

[3] - Until this is properly sourced to WP:RS/WP:V sources this addition of these categories should not be in the article. Cirt (talk) 15:20, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Urban is a German surname anyway.

There is another, more blatant discrepancy

According to this entry, this poor man was born in two different places, which lie far far away one from the other...

adding to "Polish descent"

Having just written our family history I have found a definate link to specifically Robert Urbahn that links him to my Polish Family of Urbanski. He is according to the information found my cousin. A DNA STR Y deep scan will sort this out quick smart. Keith is his son, my father was pure Polish Nobility born from Szlachta (Nobility) from the House of Urbanski in 1911 and Robert (Bob) as he called him was his direct relative - we are called Urbanski. Unbeknowns previously to the Urbahn's (his recorded birth surname) and for the sake of public information they are Urbahn and now called Urban (only some of the family). I will not place the suspected reasons publically as to why the many name changes by Robert.

FYI Urban is not at all totally German; originaly our family was infact 'Urban' from 1570s 'backwards' until 1030AD in Przemysl Poland. We have been Urban for 1000 years almost and In 1602 King Sigismund III lifted us to Nobility with 'ski & 'ska. Also Keith's and Robert's line come from a Partly Royal and definately Noble Polish family formed in 1602 in Haczow from Urbanskich. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.30.96.167 (talk) 00:14, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
