Degrees of Protection
What's this all about? --152.78.254.6 14:31, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I too was wondering what on earth "18 degrees of protection" meant. Can't find anything in Wikipedia that explains what this means. Also googled for it but got nothing relevant to currencies. Suggest it is removed unless someone can explain it. -- Muntfish 15:47, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
2006 banknotes
Does anyone have more detail on the stated 'misspelling of the word "bank"' ? The BBC article [1] mentions the letter K but nothing more specific than that.... -- Muntfish 11:55, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've added a description based on a longer article. A photo of the bad notes would be great- though I'm not sure how many got out. Staecker 18:47, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Kazakh?
This page title should be "Kazakhstani tenge", since this is the currency of the nation of Kazakhstan. It has little to do with "Kazakh" the language or the Kazakh ethnicity. Things which are culturally or ethnically Kazakh are called "Kazakh". Things from Kazakhstan are called "Kazakhstani". Thus Grigori Marchenko is a "Kazakhstani politician", not a "Kazakh politician", because he is ethnically Russian (not Kazakh). And the tenge is "Kazakhstani". Please let's at least discuss it. - I suspect so too. Ask User:Nightstallion, who made the move. If this is to changed back to Kazakhstani tenge, then a dozen of other articles have to be moved back too, include the currencies of 4 other central Asian countries. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 14:11, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Mh. Are you certain of this? If so, a number of other articles (those on elections, most prominently) will also have to be moved... —Nightstallion (?) 15:57, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know how standard this usage is for other central asian republics (Uzbek, Tajik, etc), but it's the emerging standard for articles about Kazakhstan on WP (see some old CfDs here and here.), and well it should be. Staecker 17:12, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough, then. —Nightstallion (?) 13:25, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
SHOULD BE "KAZAKH TENGE" (or Kazakhstan's tenge)!!!
NOT "Kazakhstani"!!! There is no word "Kazakhstani"!!! Check yourself in every dictionary; you had to do it before writing this article!!! Change it!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whiteali (talk • contribs) 17:36, 10 May 2007
- The word "Kazakhstani" is correct, compare: "Pakistani", "Iraqi" etc. "Kazakh Tenge" is wrong, because the word "kazakh" means the ethnicity, and "kazakhstani" means nationality. The Kazakhstani Tenge is not a kind of an ethnic currency, but the national for the Republic of Kazakhstan. --88.204.251.218 20:01, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Then I suppose, all these are kinds of ethnic currencies: Russian ruble, Belarusian ruble, Ukrainian hryvnia, Georgian lari, Armenian dram, Polish złoty, Romanian leu, Turkish lira? Selerian (talk) 18:05, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- The English language is too poor! For example, in Russian I can say Русский оr Российский. The difference is: Русский - of the Russian ethnicity, Российский - belonging to the Russian Empire or Russian Federation. Of course, Russian ruble is Российский рубль in the Russian language. Both words (Русский and Российский) are translated to English only as Russian. Do you feel the difference? About tenge - if the name is Kazakh tenge, it means tenge belonging only to the Kazakhs living in Kazakhstan (just more than 50% of total population of Kazakhstan). If the name is Kazakhstani tenge - it is belonging to all citizens of Kazakhstan of all ethnic roots! --Ds02006 (talk) 18:12, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

European currency?
Huh? Why is under European currencies? Fix it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sylius (talk • contribs) 18:21, 5 June 2007
- According to the maps above, Kazakhstan is partially in Europe. So the currency is dual-listed just like the Russian ruble and the Turkish lira. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 06:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Japanese Postal Mark
The character 〒 (Unicode U+3012) is not the Kazakhstani Tenge Sign, actually that is the Japan postal mark. The Unicode Standard has not yet assigned any position for the Kazakhstani Tenge. Please, remove the character 〒 from the text. --88.204.251.218 19:54, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Neither is it ⍑ (U+2351), the APL functional symbol Up Tack Overbar. As a stop-gap, I have tried T̄, and T̄, a capital T plus an Overbar, but the Overbar doesn’t display. 134.34.1.209 (talk) 11:12, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Update: Since unicode 5.2, there is a character for Tenge : U+20B8 ₸Frédéric Grosshans (talk) 13:35, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
- The "overbar T" symbol doesn't appear properly in Firefox (Win XP). I was considering replacing it with the Japan postal mark or "╤" (U-2564) until I found this discussion. Is there any other way to post a PROXY version of the tenge symbol that is accurately displayed on all computers--say by using the Japan postal mark or U-2564--until Unicode adds the tenge symbol proper? Or why not just create a graphic (a la the Indian Rupee)? - 66.92.0.62 (talk) 18:20, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
- Erp, I spoke too soon... there does exist a graphic symbol for the tenge: ... I will replace instances of "T with Overbar" with this image. - 66.92.0.62 (talk) 18:22, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
