[edit]Dr. Moore is a bestselling author and acclaimed preacher. He was Senior Pastor of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church – Downtown Houston (over 7,500 members) from 1984 to 2006I present this information to address the issue of notability:
Rev. Kathleen Baskin-Ball is a breakthrough leader who represents a major societal change. In North Texas with a population over well over 3 million, she was the first clergywoman to demonstrate a long-term pattern of high church growth. Every church she has pastored has at least doubled within a few years of her appointment. She has led all of these churches to dramatic increases in worship attendance. She has done this at mainline denomination churches that represent the theological center.
In this area of the country, church attendance is common rather than the exception. Many churches do not ordain women. Many of those that do encourage women to only serve as associate pastors. When persons argue that women don’t make good sr. pastors, especially of large churches, they might be asked “but what about Kathleen Baskin-Ball.” She is one of those breakthrough leaders that impacts how many persons view this issue.
Evidence of her dynamic preaching can be found in her invitation to preach at Youth07. This event is held every four years and is typically the largest gathering in the denomination with over 10,000 in attendance. They invite five or six preachers. They can chose from the 33,000 United Methodist Clergy in the US. Kathleen Baskin-Ball is preaching the closing night of the event. Others clearly see her as extraordinarily gifted.
When the Dallas Morning News asked key religious leaders to name just one sacred passage, they included Rev. Kathleen Baskin-Ball.Link to Article
In an issue focusing on the 50th anniversary of the ordination of women, the United Methodist Reporter, a weekly national newspaper, included an interview with Kathleen Baskin-Ball on the front page. (United Methodist Reporter, April 21, 2006)
Dr. Jim Moore recently moved to the Dallas area following his retirement from full-time ministry in the Texas Conference of the UMC. He has worshiped on a number of occasions at Suncreek UMC. In October 2006. he said, “Kathleen Baskin-Ball is without question one of the key and gifted leaders in our church today. She lights up the room with her genuine, radiant Christ-like spirit. Eloquent preacher, keen administrator, committed servant, faithful disciple, compassionate pastor, prophetic voice, good friend….Kathleen is all of these and much, much more.”

- Dr. Moore, thank you for taking the time to respond to these queries regarding Reverend Kathleen Baskin-Ball. I'll get right to the point: The Dallas Morning News citation and similar articles speak only to limited, local notability. Testimonials in general fail to meet our standards regarding objectivity. National awards, significant positions (note that even most UMC Bishops don't have Wikipedia articles), and publications, on the other hand, would all speak to Reverend Baskin-Ball's notability. However, I see your endorsement raises one possibility. If we can demonstrate through reliable and verifiable sources that all speakers invited to preach at the quadrennial youth gathering have achieved the highest levels of notability within the UMC, then we could make a case for keeping Reverend Baskin-Ball's article. Can you provide sources supporting this idea? Rklawton 03:45, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- According to the website for Youth2007, Baskin-Ball is a keynote speaker at the event. I think the article needs more sources to help improve it, but I think that's a big argument toward notability. —C.Fred (talk) 04:26, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
