[edit]@Altenmann: Per MOS:GNL, gendered terms like "poetess" are typically avoided. gobonobo + c 19:45, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- The ruse says nothing about poetess. She is a poetess. And calling her poet, i.e., depriving her of feminine identity is sexism. - Altenmann >talk 21:54, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Poetess is a gendered term. The manual of style says to
use gender-neutral language
. In this case, the gender-neutral term is poet. Why use a term that peaked in popularity in the 1890s, is considered archaic if not obsolescent (WP:MODLANG), when even the OED3 says that the "The gender-neutral poet is now often preferred."? gobonobo + c 22:33, 15 May 2024 (UTC)- This is your cherry-picking of the policy. To say with precision, she is a poetess. That's the grave problem with OED3 and the whole anglophone world: the role of women is hidden under the pretense of neutrality. - Altenmann >talk 22:41, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
