Rembrandt

[edit]

Since no source was supplied (and as I had trouble seeing anything Rembrandtian in the sole photo provided here), in this edit, I flagged:

Because of his uses of lighting and color, Hammer was in a 2012 Saatchi Gallery contest honored as 'a Rembrandt in photography'

with "{{Citation needed|date=January 2015}}".

Somewhere in this series of edits, User:Jipjoep (contributions) replaced "{{Citation needed|date=January 2015}}" with "{{cite web|url=http://www.saatchiart.com/photography/fine-art?query=contest|title=Saatchi Fine Art Photography Contest}}"

So let's take a look at http://www.saatchiart.com/photography/fine-art?query=contest. As I view it, it doesn't mention Rembrandt. Indeed, it doesn't even mention Hammer.

What am I missing? -- Hoary (talk) 10:13, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You're an art historian? I am. The reference to Rembrandt was not for the art piece here but meant in general. In fact, Hammer objected to the qualification since he appreciates Vermeer and Caravaggio more. I noticed that for the Saatichi contest(s) you have to log in on that domain. Some time back Hammer left Saatcchi (business reasons) but his account is still available. http://www.saatchiart.com/karlhammer . Jipjoep (talk) 08:58, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

More junk sources

[edit]
According to curators and critics at the Dreamscapes Exhibition his style has a somewhat 'dreamy character with spiritual overtones'.

Attribution: "{{cite web|url=http://www.alden-biesen.be/nl/dreamscapes|title=Dreamscapes & Imaginair Realisme}}"

The title of www.alden-biesen.be/nl/dreamscapes is not "Dreamscapes & Imaginair Realisme", it's "Dreamscapes". As it's in Dutch, I can't read it. But I can see that Hammer's name doesn't appear within it.

. . . In subsequent years Hammer was involved with the introduction of private radio and TV RTL in the Netherlands and Belgium, owned a trucker radio station and was advisor to media moguls such as Leo Kirch.

Attribution: "{{cite web|url=https://nl.linkedin.com/in/karlhammer|title=Kirch Gruppe biography}}"

The title of https://nl.linkedin.com/in/karlhammer is not "Kirch Gruppe biography", it's "Karl Hammer". It's his LinkedIn page. As such, it's not a reliable source.

There is a link to the Daily Mail. Here's what that article says, in its entirety:

Some 50 years later, Dutch journalist Karl Hammer Kaatee came across the document and went on to perform a series of abortive digs. But finally, with no gold in sight, he decided to make the supposed map public.

Is anything in this Wikipedia article of any value? -- Hoary (talk) 12:11, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Hoary, you are shooting from the hip and appear not to be doing your homework which I -partly - contribute to the fact that you can't read Dutch. In the sources there is a TV interview (subtitled for English) that makes it very clear who Hammer is. Also it follows him on his quest for the Nazi gold. The LinkedIn account leads to a CV and to the various other (former) Kirch Gruppe employees. Hammer is on IMDb ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3835089/) and in many other sources that weren't even mentioned in the article. So please, don't call sources 'junk' just because you on't understand them. Jipjoep (talk) 09:11, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
