Neutrality....?
[edit]I think it's worth asking two questions:
1) Wouldn't it be better to have a statistician in charge of the ONS, rather than a sociologist?
2) Has Dunnell at any time been a member of, or otherwise associated with the Labour Party?

1) It has been commented upon many times over the years that the current National Statistician is not a statistician. I understand that she is a social researcher, rather than a sociologist, though, so she is, in fact, an "analyst", and the Government has started moving towards bringing the various analyst specialisms together, so, for example, a team of statisticians could be managed by an economist. She was also already employed at the ONS, so was already in a senior management position, and, it could be argued, had a good understanding of how the organisation was run etc. etc. I am not sure how relevant all of that is anymore, though, but am curious as to how they will appoint the next one!
2) I have never seen any suggestion that she is associated with the Labour Party in any professional capacity. I am not sure it is any of our business whether she is a member in a personal capacity, although I would be surprised if she was. Guineveretoo (talk) 09:12, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
