Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because Karel Píč was a noted writer in the Esperanto world (please note: he is NOT a living person, he died in 1995), there are articles about him in the Czech and Esperanto Wikipedias. An English-speaking non-Esperantist wishing to learn more about Esperanto literary figures should have some information available on Píč in English. Just because he is not a household name in the English-speaking world doesn't mean there can't be an article about him in the English Wikipedia. This is my very first Wikipedia article, so please give me a chance! I hope to add some references or external links at some point. — Sendube (talk) 22:42, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, however - you need to work on this article - it needs work. I am saving it from the immediate deletion - please keep up the good work, particularly on sources. Standard2211 (talk) 23:16, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Standard2211, for saving the article. Please note again that the subject of the article is NOT a living person, contrary to the message above the article indicating that this is a "biography of a living person". The article clearly indicates that the person is no longer alive, even mentions where he is buried! Can that message be removed? Also I'd like to ask: can sources in Esperanto be given or can they only be in English? And can I quote Esperanto texts, translating them into English? Thanks for your help! Sendube

No need to remove the original claim of living and no easy way of doing so. As for sources, you can point to foreign ones - people can use automatic translators if they are not satisfied. Ideally of course you want to point to an english source Standard2211 (talk) 01:38, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ok I added some sources. So sources should not be an immediate issue. Here is what you can do

  • 1) translate [[1]] and the result to your article in english (translation in your own words is best)
  • 2) add infobox (research what that is - it is fun)

Standard2211 (talk) 02:17, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please translate the publication titles I added them but needs someone else to translate. Standard2211 (talk) 12:56, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please add an infobox Standard2211 (talk) 16:14, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added infobox. For additional fields see Infobox writer template — Preceding unsigned comment added by Standard2211 (talkcontribs) 18:36, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A picture of Karel Píč

[edit]

Can you find an image of Karel Píč that is free of copyright - you may need to ask for a permission in writing from one of the websites that have him.

You could then insert it into the infobox. Also, the shot of the grave is a little too striking at the top of the article. Maybe it can go somewhere towards the middle or end, particularly if you can get your hands on the picture of the writer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Standard2211 (talkcontribs) 22:15, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
