More on scriptwriting
[edit]There are many more films which have scripts by Shindo which should be added to the article. JoshuSasori (talk) 01:25, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Name seems to be "Shindo"
[edit]His name on his autobiography is romanized as "Shindo", and every film credit I have been able to find says "Shindo". Does anyone have a source for him using the macron version of the name anywhere? If not, I will send this to requested moves. JoshuSasori (talk) 11:01, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
Requested move

The result of the move request was: moved to Kaneto Shindo. Favonian (talk) 09:54, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Kaneto Shindō → Kaneto Shindo – On Kaneto Shindo's autobiography, "ikite iru kagiri" (see article for reference) he gives the name "Kaneto Shindo" without a macron. I have examined as many film posters as I can find using Google Image search, and in every case I have not found a macron on the final "o" of his name. For example, [1], [2], [3], [4]. By the Wikipedia Manual of Style for Japan-related articles (Names of modern figures), this article should be under the name used personally or professionally by the person. This person uses the form "Shindo" both in his autobiography and in every film credit I have been able to find. Thus, I request this article be moved to "Kaneto Shindo" without a macron. Survey
[edit]- Support. The subject gets 1,140 post-1980 English-language Google Book results. Out of those, 30, or 2.6 percent, use the macron. I consider a source like Magill's survey of cinema to be more authoritative on this issue than a French film poster or a Japanese-language autobiography. I'm not concerned with the subject's preference myself. If it was up to me, we'd take all the macrons out of the titles. The macron gets no respect from IMDB, allmovie, or Amazon, who all misdisplay this name rather amusingly. Kauffner (talk) 08:19, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your vote, although the name the person him or herself chooses to use is by far the most important guiding factor in my opinion. I would support the macron if Shindo used it himself, but he doesn't seem to, and Wikipedia doesn't have any right to rename him. JoshuSasori (talk) 09:54, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Support: I also agree that as the English Wikipedia, it should not include letters in the title that are not included in the alphabet.Boneyard90 (talk) 18:39, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

To add once references are found
[edit]Things which I want to add once references are found:
- Quote about "all my films are about one thing".
- Rationale for starting Kindai Eiga Kyokai is missing - maybe a translated quote?

"Japanese socialists" category
[edit]Regarding the addition of the above category to this article, Shindo probably was a "Japanese socialist" and this category is correct, but it would be better to add to the article content on his political beliefs rather than adding the category without the content.
