For many years I lived near Fonda NY and grew very fond of the people of Kanatsiohareke. Chief Tom is an absolutely wonderful man and although I am a white girl he always spoke to me as an equal. I bought moccasins there about every 6 months and since moving to NM I just cannot find a pair of moccasins that match up. My husband has mended them over and over but after 15 years of wearing year round that are just tatters. I love the immersion program he started and support it 100%. At the time, I didn't know how to brain tan hides so I would bring all my hides to the tribe and let them put them to use. I have now learned to brain tan-by no means an expert, but just finished a road killed fox-tanned with the fur!! Thank you so much for lessons and what I picked up along the way. I can now make leather and with the fur on!! I just love you guys from the first time I stopped there and wish you well in all your future endeavors.
