Regarding place name

[edit]

This place should always be regarded with the name 'Kampong Ayer', both in Malay and English languages but also in other latin-alphabet languages. Although 'Kampong Ayer' is the older Malay spelling of the term 'Kampung Air', which literally translates to English as 'Water Village' (Kampung = Village, Air = Water), the older spelling form is retained; the name with the current Malay spelling convention (i.e. Kampung Air) is almost never used especially in local media. Similarly, the equivalent English term is not frequently used as primary name to this place, it is usually more as the explanatory translation to the name 'Kampong Ayer'. Furthermore, because 'Kampong Ayer' has established historical and cultural significance, it has acquired nuances to its name which will be lost or diminished when substituting it with 'Kampong Ayer' in Malay or 'Water Village' in English. Therefore, the name 'Kampong Ayer' should always be used as the place name in this article and other related articles, and 'Water Village' should be avoided unless it is necessary for explanatory function. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zulfadli51 (talkcontribs) 03:41, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
