Darwin?
[edit]The article states: "Wallace used the butterfly as an example of natural selection in support of Charles Darwin." Didn't Wallace actually come up with the idea of natural selection independently of Darwin, and then allow the older author to take the credit? See Natural Selection#Historical development: Darwin's theory. --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 20:00, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. They independently came up with it. But note that the sentence does not attribute natural selection to Darwin. It was "an example of natural selection", not "an example of Darwin's natural selection". Wallace's works on the subject where this was mentioned Mimicry, and Other Protective Resemblances Among Animals and Darwinism, an Exposition of the Theory of Natural Selection with Some of its Applications, was indeed in support of Darwin (as obvious from the title), hence the rest of the sentence.-- OBSIDIAN†SOUL 00:22, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
