[edit]Please, can we kill this redirect? All it does is making people believe that they made no typo when trying to type Kalashnikov, because they see an existing link (that is, if they use preview at all...). I just spent a lot of time fixing those typos, especially in the , where someone copied&pasted this typo (confirmed it, the document quoted does it right) over and over... I could understand if this was a rare transcription, but neither me nor the article on transcription (which uses a Russian example) could find one. Tierlieb 00:53, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- I am the wikipedian that Tierlieb is referring to. I am not sure what they mean when they say: "(confirmed it, the document quoted does it right)" I didn't quote a single document, I quoted dozens of documents. Each article about a Guantanamo captive quotes unique transcripts.
- I have been double-checking the transcripts, as I restore the original spelling. I haven't found a single instance where I made a typo yet.
- Without regard to whether I made a typo I believe the redirection should stay. Redirections are cheap. That is policy. Kalashnikov is a Russian name. Russian uses the cyrillic alphabet. Transliteration into a language, like English, that uses the Roman alphabet is essentially arbitrary. -- Geo Swan 06:48, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- In the interests of completion, I'll record that Tierlieb did acknowledge, on my talk page, that he or she misread the references, that those references did, after all, use the incorrect spellings.
- Cheers! Geo Swan 03:11, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
