Why recreate this article, when it is very short and mostly copied from Gandaki River? I suggest re-merging back into that article (which won't take much work!), basically going back to what we had before. Comments? -- Spireguy (talk) 16:14, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The gorge is at least as notable as the river. What is arguably the deepest gorge in the world needs its own article. Only about half of it was copied from Gandaki River, where the description of the gorge is lost in other material. Kali Gandaki Gorge certainly needs expansion - the Gandaki River article probably does not. Mhockey (talk) 19:34, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, fair enough. I agree that the gorge is notable. -- Spireguy (talk) 01:51, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While the gorge is notable, I am not sure where the claim that it is the deepest gorge originates and I can't see a good justification for. Take note of the Hunza River at the Rakaposhi View point in Nagar, Gulmit is over 5800 m below the summits of both Rakaposhi (11 km to the south) and Batura Sar (30 km to the north). This gorge is slightly wider but deeper than the Kali GandakiCarlsont (talk) 05:12, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Removing for now. It's hidden, so if a different ref is found, or supporting evidence, it can be easily restored to the article.
On further investigation, the definitions I have read would mean that it definitely is not the deepest, as the peak used to claim this has a ridge between it and the canyon.
This makes the slope less than the prescribed 45° angle needed to be counted as a wall of the canyon - reducing the height by 800m. Chaosdruid (talk) 14:50, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ohb2JgT_SRc, which mentions this article somewhat credulously. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 03:50, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
