To the blogger of this Wiki, kudos to you as you are correct to state the truth about the reference to the term "Kazadan" at Pg 31 of Owen Rutter's "Pagans of North Borneo". I have read the Book and concur that documentary evidence such as Owen Rutter's said book gives credence to our contention that the word "Kadazan" is not a recently coined description of a race much contrary to many allegations or murmurings that at least I have heard as I was growing up. In fact, many thanks to your (Mr. Kadazan Wiki Blogger) research and direction to refer to Owen Rutter's book that I am now convinced and able to reply many of my friends who have astutely affirmed that the reference to "Kadazan" was only in the 60's. It may have been the case rather that the term "Kadazan" may have been used in most discussion during the 60's or that the late Datuk Peter Mojuntin and Tun Fuad Stephens had used the term as a unifying term as opposed to having had created the term out of mere innovations. Maybe Peter's Aki or Ina or Moing Moings' had used Kadazan to describe us all these while. Only those who had lived that exciting time can tell us.
Contrary to the so called good deeds that some of our politicians have done (by merging the two descriptions Kadazan and Dusun into Kadazandusun) we have now a situation where even the printed and terresterial media have conveniently done away with the Kadazan language for a generic "Kadazandusun" language whilst mantaining the Dusun language and Murut Language in co-existence with the Kadazandusun language. Confused? well even Yoda (of Star Wars fame) would be confused, let alone jibby jabby jumble up Yoda's grammar! Pardon my digression.
The time has come for us "Kadazans" to correct the many misconception that have arisen eversince we (the Kadazans and the Dusuns) had allowed some of our political leaders the exclusive privilege (without question)to delete our description for reasons only known to them. I think the Dusuns likewise the Kadazans have been and are proud of their race description as neither names are derogatory nor were there any contention that it was, ever. It may have only been some wild political imaginations by our politicians who have (from my obervations) well outlived their/his/her service.
So on that note let us now do right and correct the confusion by annuling what a stroke of the pen had merged (Kadazan and Dusun into "Kadazandusun") and seriously from now henceforth describe the Dusuns' as a Dusuns and the Kadazans' as a Kadazan, after all besides pride for oneself's achievements' what is in a name after all (other than definite description)!
I am proud to be a Kadazan and so are my relatives in Tambunan who are Dusuns'. It has never been an issue and it will never be an issue. So whoever you are ... you Politician you (you know who you are)... get this fact right on your noggin' and do not and no longer confuse us! Do not let your political ambitions obliterate such refined race as the "Kadazans" and the "Dusuns".
Kotohuadan and Thank you Mr. Kadazan wiki blogger.
Major Re-edit
[edit]Sorry to say this but the previous version was totally and unequivocally crappy. Amateurish. A disgrace to Kadazans everywhere! I didn't spend too much time on my revision but hopefully I'll be back to do some refinements and additions. Being Kadazan, I've taken it upon myself to try and provide some truth about my ethnicity, so there might be some bias present despite my attempts at objectivity.
To do list: - Acceptable references, bibliography - More customs and traditions - More accurate accounts - Links - Etc --Infin 18:54, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
I agree this sounds like some Half Chinese/Kadazan person wrote this or a Chinese Sabahan himself. Where is the references on Kadazan originating from migrating chinese from Souther China??? I will delete this passage until proof is given. Until then it is a false statment that could mislead people and offend people such as myself who are proud Kadazans.
About the Prayer and religion stuff
[edit]Please do not forget before the arrival of Christianity in the Borneo isle, the Kadazan Dusunsare believers of the Kinoringan. The sample of prayer that you have pasted there is actually a translation of the Christian "Our Father".
If I am not mistaken, there are still some ancient chantings used untils nowadays, especially those chanted by the Bobohizans during the Kaamatan.
Look at these passages, for instance :
"Tabi mondou, muntu' sitanga' dandam somuka, intutun kou insan,.." a prayer to chanted before walking out at nights, to protect the chanter from evil spirit lurking at nights.
"Hob batak! Tinggaton nopo ih rinumumpos lugus no ih rinumumpok. Titigaon nopo ih rinumumpos, totobon no ih rinumumpok. Tawan nopo ih rinumumpos, boluntung no ih rinumumpok. Kakanan nopo ih rinumumpos, ropuhan no ih rinumumpok. Salapa nopo ih rinumumpok, salakati no ih rinumumpok! Saa' kou sukab kou! Sa kou mantad ihh mononnginan diti tinan! " A chanting of exorcism used in pre Christian exorcism of malevolent spirits.
Please, there are still traces of bobohizans living somewhere around Sabah. Don't let the knowledge die along with them.
--- That doesn't matter. The "Our father" was merely provided as a sample of the language. Whodhellknew 20:31, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
