Update may be needed? (license revoked)
[edit]An update with regards to KVAW's status is needed… but I can say with certainty that the license has been canceled (PDF) by the Federal Communications Commission for, in effect, failing to have had an actual authorization to speak off since the summer of 2009. Apparently there have been many silent periods for the station over the years, though I don't know if it's currently on or not. --WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 20:50, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

KVAW not defunct?
[edit]The KVAW saga continues, apparently: the FCC has now reinstated (PDF) the station's license, "[p]ursuant to Section 1.108 of the Commission’s rules," but didn't elaborate as to what led to this turn of events. While I'm still not sure that KVAW is on the air currently, this does seem to clear the way for a sale that might actually lead to actual programming once again — in other words, it isn't as defunct as we thought. In the meantime, an additional update might be needed… --WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 19:47, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- KVAW is silent; it was the station's filing for Silent STA in December 2010 that alerted the FCC that they had been broadcasting without authorization. There are 475,000 reasons why the beneficiaries of the Estate of Joseph Zavaletta are feeling much better now. I'll make the proper modifications this week. dhett (talk • contribs) 23:52, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Another update needed
[edit]As of 2015, here's what I've been able to figure out about KVAW:
- The station is operating, possibly on physical channel 24. It brands as "Channel 24" though its programming is in Spanish. NRT is Núcleo Radio y Televisión, a binational media group owned by Rolando González Treviño; their media holdings include some Mexican cable systems, two Monclova, Coah. FMs, cable channels in Monclova, Saltillo and Sabinas, and KVAW. NRT is involved in a money laundering scandal that involves Humberto Moreira, the ex-governor of Coahuila.
- González Treviño comes from a media family. His brother Roberto Casimiro González Treviño owns XHRCG-TV Saltillo, a bunch of cable systems and some FMs. Roberto's son owns R Communications Group, a radio and TV company in Texas that also operates RCG's Ciudad Acuña radio stations.
- Their Web presence is absolutely horrible. There's one Facebook page but almost none of its content is public. ([1])
- The station is located at 2290 N. Veterans Blvd., not 2524 as the FCC lists. The studios and transmitter are at that facility, and you can see a KVAW "24" wrapped van if you use Google Street View.
I'm not sure about their programming at all. TitanTV doesn't lump them in with the SA stations, so there's no way to tell. They do promote on the Facebook page "NRT Noticias" on weekday afternoons, but... Raymie (t • c) 20:15, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
